Explain to them that they're drinking something where one of the main ingredients is CORN, even though corn isn't supposed to be an ingredient in beer. Offer other examples-- would they use corn as a money-saver in their meatballs or ice cream? Would they drink coffee that was brewed with corn in place of some of the coffee beans because it was cheaper? No? Well, who's drinking weird shit now??

I whole-heartedly agree. Additionally, one of the most exciting parts of traveling to other regions of the country is the ability to find and experience new beers that I can't get back home. My suitcase always comes home significantly heavier than it was when I left!

    1. Having to run 40 miles a week to offset all the beer and so I can still say "I live a balanced life".

    2. Getting up at 5:30 am to do said running.

    3. Being hungover while doing said running.

    4. Repeatedly spilling beer on newborns because I can't figure out how to successfully open a beer while holding a sleeping baby.

If its a capped bottle get yourself one of these. As long as you have one arm free you can open a beer put a little pale/bucket beneath it to catch the bottle cap and your good.

p.s. I also came across this and thought it was a Great Divide one, but apparently this a cooler company called YETI that sells them. With the likes of recent collaborations like DFH/Woolrich (or /Rogues Gallery) and New Holland/Carhartt, GD should do a Yeti collab with them. A match made in heaven (too bad those are some mighty expensive coolers though).

Money. I don't have an issue with whale chasing (I don't chase, I just like to try new beers). Once in a while the wife will drop the old "I think we need to talk about the beer thing", which is a close second to the money it costs. Unfortunately, there is no chance of converting her.

Not personally. I got a nondescript red one that has two screws (L and R) that I got from my grandfather. Just prefer me some beer to soda. Anything that gets the job done though, that's all that counts.

I wasn't being serious I only have a coke one because my parents happened to have a few that are antiques. So I never needed to look for one.

Sorry to bust your bubble but that's not entirely correct, though. Some of the first "American" beers were corn-based because growing stuff in the U.S. - y'know, without modern science - is not that easy. (even to this day from what I gather, the majority of U.S. soil/weather is crap for versatile forms of agriculture)
And technically, they do use corn as "money saver" in things that are sweetened in the form HFCS.

Plus, explaining to people something they like is in some way, shape or form "bad" usually doesn't bode well - no matter how logical or rational that explanation may be. Not to mention that there's no need to "convert" people.

    1. Money, while some brews are comparatively cheap - others are less so. (some domestics like Schneider Weisse go for like ~2$/0.5l)
    2. Limited availability of local stuff even in pubs. (at least where I live right now)

Sorry to be offtopic but there's something I gotta ask: So, from what I gather it's illegal to send alcohol via mail in the U.S. but is there actually a reasoning behind this or this just a historical remnant of old legislation?

This. People often laugh when I mention my athletic past. For some reason they think I've always been this big.

Also, money and time. I'd love to spend all week hitting amazing events at St. Louis Craft Beer week, but I would go broke and I'd be giving up too much time with my family.

So I guess this beer advocate thing would be easier if I was a billionaire loner.

Ever take your girlfriend craft beer shopping? She looks like I do when I'm at the mall with her, "Are you almost done?!!!!"

I'm not sure what the law is, but people ship beer all the time. Just package it really tightly to avoid breakage. If they ask, you're shipping books haha

These are all repeats, I know:
    1. My liver is incessant about "having had it all already"
    2. Money - I am wasting SOO much money in monthly dues to the gym that beer is preventing me from going to
    3. The blank stares when I talk craft or home-brewing to people who don't care (usually happens after having a few nice craft beers).
