Who Is Enjoying Lagunitas-Chicago?

I visited the taproom last week. The space is impressive, but it's not a place to go if you want to hold a conversation with your friends. It was very loud, but there are a few tables outside of the taproom more towards the catwalk that didn't suffer from this. I can't recall how many beers they had on, but I think it was at least 12. I look forward to returning.

I actually needed a memo holder clip so I was really excited when I saw that the merch area sold them.

 

It's a bit of a walk from the entrance with at least 3 people stationed around to point you in the right direction, then up some stairs, another turn then you're there.

Bout a dozen beers on tap. Had a pretzel. Great mustard. From what I saw others ordering, the rest of the food looked good.

 

Are they filling growlers? If so, is it only their growler they'll fill or any growler?

 

Was there last week when the beer gods delayed my flight at Midway. They had nachos made with El Milagro chips. That alone will keep me going back every time I'm back in Chicago.

My bartender sucked. But I had the freshest Lagunitas Sucks I've ever had, and it made up for the bartender. The space is amazing and dauntingly huge. Will definitely be going back.

 

Does anyone know if they're selling 1/6 barrels? I've tried calling multiple times but cannot get through to a human to answer this question. When I visited the Petaluma brewery they sold 1/6 barrels for $75 which would be the next best deal to half acre selling for $60. I have a two tap home draft system and always have akari or daisy cutter flowing.

 

Not sure if they sell 1/6 barrels straight out of the brewery but you can get them from Binnys. Don't know what beer you're looking for but give Binnys a call for what's available.

 

Everything I've tried on the menu has been above average. The space is so massive, still every time I go there I have a moment where I think about what a game changer it is for the craft scene in Chicago.

Having their beers fresh is fantastic and by far the biggest selling point for me. And at $5.50 for four 4 oz. pours (regardless of choice/style/ABV) it's a great deal as well. Was never really a fan of Hop Stoopid until the server sold me on trying it fresh and it was noticeably better than the mystery-freshness-bottles imported from California.

Speaking of mysteries, and my only real complaint about the place - they really could up their signage game on outside of the gigantic building, especially for people driving to the place.

Been meaning to go. For one reason, a buddy of mine that works there recently came across some KBS he's been holding for me ... but anyway, the early close is kind of a bummer. 9:00 I think over the weekend.

 

I have searched far and wide for freshness dates on these bombers multiple times and they are nowher to be found. No Julian dating or anything. I worked in the beer industry for 7 years so I have seen every kind of bottle date there is and these bottles don't have any.

Closed Monday and Tuesday!? They know they are in Chicago right? And only open til 9?! My grandma stays up later than that! Can't wait to go there though.

 

Why don't you just call them and ask....?

 

Has anyone found a link or rundown of the food menu? Their website doesn't have it. Also, is this place at all kid friendly?
