Hello all. I am new to BA and i am going on a beer vacation to Belgium I will stay in brussels for three days and visit: moeder lambic at fountainas and the original, bier-circus and/or delices & caprices and/or Nuetnigenough. Any better suggestions? Then i will go to the poperinge area for 2 days to visit De struise, In De Verde and St Bernardus At this point my question for people who visited the poperinge area: how reliable is the belbus? i don't feel comfortable riding a bike especially if i am going to have a few black alberts/pannepot Finally my MAIN question: will i survive that much beer? seriously, there are at least 30 beers i want to try, well maybe not all. i usually drink once or twice per week, maybe 4-5 strong belgians per session. This time it is going to be 5 days in a row, should i take one day off in between?
From Brussels you should definitely head up to Bruges / Brugge. Its not far by train and a gorgeous city with many hidden gems (like De Halve Maan Brewery). Enjoy!
I'm reading your OP like rap lyrics Regarding the point about drinking too much - I think you'll be ok. Stay off the bike though, as you already pointed out...
the bus is very reliable. We used it to go from the B&B adjacent to St Bernardus, to In de Vrede, and back. On weekends you have to call for it, otherwise they don't make those stops. Or at least, Sundays. Wish we had gone to De Struise too, maybe the only regret I have of the trip, though we did stop in their bottle shop in Bruges. PS Speaking of bicycles, there was a bachelor party doing the tour and tasting at St. Bernardus when we were there and they had their own rented bus but made the groom ride his bicycle, in an orange jumpsuit worn backwards! (they drove alongside with lights flashing and horn blowing. The bike lane is nice and wide, though. They appeared to be going back towards Poperinge...didn't see them later at In de Vrede anyway and we were there quite awhile)
get in beer shape, start practicing now. lol seriously holiday is party time. enjoy. good beer guide to Belgium is a wonderful book to get btw.
I cannot tell you how many times we drove to Westvleteren stuck behind crazy folks on bicycles.... priceless. narrow roads.
