Yeah I don't get the rationale of having huge takeovers and not offering some sort of sampler flights. People will of course want to try a ton of different stuff. Hell, the bar could probably even make way more money per oz if they offered them. I dunno why they don't...too many glasses to clean/deal with? Serving times to get 4 different glasses? *shrug*

From what I've seen, it is extra work to provide flights. Union Jack's and Capone's both provide flights during special events, and I always take advantage of it. However, it clearly takes extra time to fill the individual small glasses, and then to slowly walk them over to the bar or table. I imagine there are additional cleaning costs associated with providng flights as well. In other words, I'm sure it's something of a hassle, and if you have a huge crowd and lot's of impatient customers, I can see why a lot of beer bars don't want to bother with it (even if you do make money on it).

Still wish more places would offer them though (I love it that my local here in Baltimore- Max's - offers flights and sample size pours all the time, even for crazy, special events like 72 hours of Belgium). Oh well...

I stopped by Devil's Den for their Ommegang night a couple weeks ago and people were ordering flights. I thought they did it regularly. I know they used to use those tall, pilsner-style glasses for flights but the last time I was there they were just using standard flight glasses. I guess it's just good to play it safe wherever u go and call ahead and ask.

devils den always has 2-3 flights listed in their beer menu with a specific 4 beers on regular days (usually geared towards a specific theme ie hoppy, german, etc). they also do this during beer brunch events and things of that nature.

i'd LOVE it if they did flights of whatever anyone wanted but it would take forever for people to get beers - devils den is crowded enough on a typical friday night, let alone in the summer during beer week with 40 relatively desirable beers on the list.

Anyone know of a site besides the Philly Beer Week site that might list the actual draft lists? I planned my Saturday starting at Memphis taproom at 11 am. I am looking to see what places are actually putting out that day.

That is exactly why we don't offer flight's....Time of serving. We are a sports bar with craft beers, so if I have people 3 deep looking for Miller Lite, the samplers take up too much time, and the glasses too much room. At least that is the problem here... we will be moving to a larger location and then flights are probably gping to be available.

Hate to say it, but we considered offering flights during non-peak hours, but then on a jammed Friday Happy Hour people would still demand them and not understand why we wouldn't offer them when it was packed, so we just stopped all together.

Barcade was incredible this afternoon, the opening tap festival was average at best. Went to Khybar this evening and had some good food with a solid tap list.

It's true Teresa's generally doesn't allow you to create flights, but for certain events they will serve the beer in preset flights or side-by-sides, particularly if there is really rare beer they are trying to stretch out longer.

The Devil's Den Bella Vista Beer Bash was really cool. I had to work and got there late but everything was still on except the Funky Buddah Raspberry Berliner and Hill Farmstead/Tired Hands Myth of Saison. Would have liked to try them but was happy with the remaining selection. Stillwater Exodus was pretty nice and the Williamsburg AleWerks Chaka Latte firkin was amazing. Also, they tapped Ballast Point Even Keel and Half Acre Chocolate Camaro late night.

you were probably better off getting there late, it was an absolute (expected) madhouse around 7-8ish. the funky buddha and HF were both really good but i think the brandy zhukov was my favorite of the night. that chaka latte was like chocolate milk...awesome.

Anyone going to any of the events today? I have absolutely nothing to do today so I am thinking about heading into the city. Don't really know where to go though.

Am going to the Memphis Taproom for the Half Acre event, and then back over to Capone's for the Funky Buddha event. Was thinking of stopping by Barcade to see what's left on offer from their event last night, but am not sure I'll have the time.
