ABC Kennedy got a case. At least half of that case is reserved. 1PP. Also, I was told there will be no distro of BA Big Sound at all in the tasting room.

@gunhaver, was this a smaller production run compared to years past or are people finally realizing BA Big Sound is a damn fine beer and snatching it up quickly? I felt as if this used to hang out at shops for at least a few weeks (though, that might be abnormal given today's standards).

All this talk of holding bottles for people and bottles already being spoken for infuriates me!! I don't care if I get a bottle of a certain beer or not as long as it is distributed fairly! Put the fucking case out, first come first serve, bottom line! This shit is getting old!

Eh, I agree to a certain extent, but if I am a frequent and local customer of a store / chain, I don't have an issue with getting a heads up over people just calling around that only pop up when special releases occur. There are a couple of different routes you can go to get what you want, I prefer to build relationships and earn trust, and generally the rewards come without having to ask.

so if you spent thousands of dollars a year at a store, and they offered to hold *1* single bottle of a special release for you, you'd say no?

Got one. I left as soon as I confirmed they were still in stock, 25 minute drive to oakland but my hunt is over thankfully.
I can understand getting upset about long term holding, but it's easy to call and have them hold it for you. It's far from the worst actions in this industry, some dude on Sunday in the catador line was bragging about getting 35 hunas on h day this year, and he picked up 3 bottles of the makeup batch... Now that shit is infuriating.

it's never been in stores before, and it's actually the biggest batch of it that we've done. probably the biggest batch of barrel-aged beer we've done, period

My thoughts exactly..with the amount of money and time i spend in "the scene" i dont mind having people that will do you favors when you need them...its how the world works..

exactly. it's not like someone is holding an entire case for one person. *that* would be fucked up. but one for their best customers? absolutely.

For everyone of those there is someone on the other side. On Sunday I met someone who got lots of Huna too. Instead of bragging he gave to people and stores to share.. Now that shit is awesome!

I'll hold a bottle for you if you drive 18 hours. It might only be 17 hours to Jacksonville

I would not even ask someone to "hold" a bottle for me. Do you know how many people spend "thousands of dollars a year" at all of these places? If each store only gets 1 case and they hold bottles for the people who spend a lot of money 1. They wouldn't have enough bottles to satisfy all the people that spend said amount of money and 2. It isnt fair to people that don't have "thousands of dollars a year" to spend but maybe scrape enough money together to buy 1 or 2 really sweet bottles a year!

"The scene" didn't used to be about people with entitlement issues expecting something over and above what everyone else gets just because they spend more money than someone else. "The scene" used to be, and should still be, about a bunch of people that love craft beer helping each other and sharing awesome beer. That means if you don't get a bottle of something then so be it.

Dude they held a bottle for me though, I've only been to that store one other time and they have no idea who I am. I called and asked if they had some in stock, lady said yeah, I said cool be there in 25 minutes, can you hold the bottle for me? I'm not a VIP or anything.

apparently the stores disagree with you. i've dealt with many privately owned retail companies (including my own) that take care of their good customers. it's smart business. it's not like they are allotting their entire stock of special beers to "special customers", leaving none for everyone else... then i could perhaps see the issue.

i don't expect anything from any place that i shop at, so i'm not sure where you're getting the entitlement thing from. as i very specifically stated, they offer. the places that take care of me the best get my business. it's capitalism.
