Well, saying you're a connoisseur comes off (and is) pompous, whereas saying you're a pain in the ass is self-deprecating (might get a laugh too) and is simply a way of preempting people who call you picky when you turn down shit.

    No, no -- that's a Nanu-Brewery. Or more specific, a Nanu Nanu-Brewery. :grinning:

the one i hate the most is when people call any beer not sold in 24 or 30 pack cans an "import."

"Museum Beer," once used by a friend of mine to describe Unibroue. We were in a Montreal liquor store, by the way.

I hate when people automatically assume that because I like "craft beer" that I won't want to drink a BMC.

For example: "Sorry Tom, we only have Miller Lite here."

Heck, if thats the only beer "here," give me some! Any beer is better than no beer in my world.

What's more irritating than the misnomers is the implication that I must be haughty or pretentious because of my beverage choice. I think this happens when a personal preference is perceived as rejection which, for some people, is insulting.

Oh, ok. Just remember, context and delivery are key. Two people can say the exact same thing with two polar opposite reactions.

Having a Widmer Drop Top be called a "fancy beer" is pretty hilarious. I'm in the PNW so most people around here drink IPAs like water so I never hear the non AAL beers get called "dark beer", but it's pretty funny to imagine.

I also just tend to admit I'm mostly a beer snob. But I'll totally down some PBR on the river. If someone offers be a AAL, I will gratefully accept it, but I really see no point in paying for it.

When my oldest son was 17 I let him taste whatever I was drinking if he wanted to. The first time he tried an IPA he winced and called it 'pine twigs and dirt' beer, so I guess 'dark beer' is actually a step up .

I was buying a 4 pack of 90min and the guy in front of me wearing a beat up american flag shirt was buying a 30 rack of bud light, he turns to me, then turns to the cashier and says "I don't drink that fancy crap, I drink american beer"........

not knowing AB-Inbev is majority owned by a Brazilian company, and a Belgian company, and isn't even headquartered in the US. (aside from not knowing Dogfish Head is 100% American).

Oh, but bud has an American flag on the cans. Nevermind, it's entirely American!
