Didn't want this information to get lost in the other thread, so thought it best to create a separate, new post.

I spoke to Matt briefly about the event tonight, and he mentioined that he was a bit concerned about how he was going to serve the beers this evening, as he only got sixtels of everything. He mentioned that all 4 beers are fairly low alcohol, and that normally he would serve larger portions, but that he's leaning towards only using the small snifters, in order to let as many people as possible try the beer. He hadn't completely made his mind up, but it sounded as if that's what he was planning to do.

He also mentioned that even with the smaller pours, he's expecting a considerable crowd (I was there for the FW event yesterday afternoon at 2:15, and Capone's was almost completely full). So it was his recommendation to me was that if I want to try all 4 beers, it would probably be best to try to get there right at 6:00 (or even a bit earlier).

    Cheers!

Thanks for the update. I trust and hope that Matt does the smaller pours? I was wondering if they were all going to be sixtels. Figured as much. So, does this mean no samplers?

He didn't say, but I would guess as much. Same with the Parabola last night (only small snifters, with no samplers).

I hope so too. He was worried that folks would be upset or wouldn't understand why he was pouring all these low alcohol beers in such small glasses. Personally, I do think folks will understand, though I told him it might be an idea to indicate on the menu tonight why these beers are only being served in small glasses (because the kegs are all sixtels).

    arrrrrrrggghhhhh.
yes, people will not understand, like always, if he keeps the same price, though.

He said he won't... that cost will be based on what he has to pay for the kegs and won't be as expensive as the FW stuff. I guess we'll find out tonight.

Just my two cents Lauren, but for a lot of the super rare stuff Matt gets in, he could probably just about charge the moon and still sell every drop. He doesn't do that and, while I'm sure he likes making a buck as much as the next guy, he seems to be honestly concerned that as many people as possible get to sample the hard to find beer he briings in.

I'm at Capone's and the beer lists 5.5oz pours for all four Funky Buddha beers.

No, just an early list. Beers go on at the time stated previously...

That's because sixtels are the only kegs they have...they can't receive anything else when that's all Funky Buddha uses. I don't think the kegs would fit at Funky Buddha if they switched to a bigger size. They just store all of the ones on their taps on like a cupboard underneath the taps.

$5/pour. Pineapple Berliner may be kicked at this point.

Going to head over later. I'm sure the rest of the list is good if Funky Buddha all kicks.

I really like Matt and a I like his establishment, but all Funky Buddha pours were $6 pints at Monk's today.

true. but compare the shitshows at the 2 places. monk's was horrible to deal with. we finally grabbed our beers and fled to the front to get a table and eat. the back room was a smelly sausage fest (sorry guys)

Monk's was a disaster, I hate to say it. Capone's definitely had the right idea with this event. Price aside, sampler-sized pours was the way to go with these beers. Plus they knew to have the pitchers ready well in advance. Everyone got an opportunity to get what they wanted, and the beers were still flowing after the initial mad rush. Monk's had one poor bartender trying to deal with the extremely foamy taps, doling out full pints that took forever to settle. Not to mention the horror of seeing the bartender pour full glasses of foam and beer down the drain just because they weren't settling fast. And with everyone wanting to try all 4 of the fruit beers...4 full pints...anyone get heartburn? heh Small pours was definitely the way to go. How fast did they kick at Monk's?

Agreed. I don't know... I admire Matt for using the smaller format glasses, but I do think he sometimes prices these events a bit on the high side. Monk's is hardly known for giving their beer away; I have to think the $6 price tag likely reflects their normal mark-up for those beers. So that makes the $5 price tag for the 5.5 ounce pours at Capone's a bit hard to swallow, and for the life of me I'll never understand the pricing ($8 for a 5.5 ounce pour) for the North Coast anniversary beer (the bourbon barrel aged RIS).

Shrug. I'm a big fan of Matt's generally, and I'm all for him making money on these events, but sometimes his pricing just seems a bit over the top.

All that aside, the beers from Funky Buddha were an absolute revelation, and I have to say I was very, very impressed. Even a beer like the Ginger IPA, which I thought was completely over the top (and I typically like ginger), was still a very fun beer to try. At least for me, the Last Snow and Pineapple Berliner Weisse were flat out amazing.

All valid points on the pricing but I considered Sat at Capones to be a treat to myself since I likely won't be drinking those beers anytime soon again. Also, I tend to limit myself to one or two events in total for PBW so the sticker show is at least confined to just an event or two. The only problem I had was the fact that the Last Snow was so good and so quaffable that you were basically drinking $15 pints of it at the end of the day. I think I had 3 of those, 3 of the Berlinner, 1 of the Ginger, and 2 of the No Crusts. So, that was $45 for about 3 pints, same with the wife. Empty wallet but still satisfied.

If you're talking about old rasputin, then I don't see what's wrong with that price point. Sure its expensive but that's because of the brewery, not the bar. The bottles are 500ml and its 20 for them if you don't get hosed. At 8 a 5.5oz pour that means 24 per 500ml. There's people that paid that and more for the bottles and you're talking about at a bar here which usually means a higher price than retail to begin with.

I think the bottles at Capone's shop were $27 or so.
