Roundabout Pacific Ring is back on and its really nice. The Unnatural Love kicked last night and is replaced with a ummm...experimental batch of Wet Hopped batch of Pacific Ring. It's...interesting. Also tapped his Berliner Weisse and will have a food cart down at the brewery on Sunday doing a variety of German sausages to go along with the Berliner.

Hi, I just moved to Pittsburgh to the waterfront area and have read most of the thread and have been able to get a good idea of local breweries now. I have now become a stay at home dad of 3 month old twins while my wife completes her one year fellowship. The giant eagle across the street is already ok with me because I can buy head hunter and few other things. Is there anywhere else close with a better selection? We have been to fat heads and enjoyed that. We tried rock bottom and that works for bringing the kids for sure. Beers are not exactly my favorite, but we can walk there. Any other beer/restaurants we can try with kids late afternoon that would be ok? They don't mind noise. If I was able to sneak out to one of the local breweries, which one should I visit? Thank you for your advice in advance!

D's is not too far away from you (10 minute drive); they are definitely kid friendly. Very large beer selection to takeout.

If you haven't been to East End, you should definitely put that on your list. I think it's safe to say that it's Pittsburgh's main craft brewery. It isn't a bar/brewpub though. Growler fills only.

    Roundabout
is a brewpub and certainly worth a visit.

    Draai Laag
is great, but limited hours to Thursday and Friday night only.

Church Brew Works is aesthetically interesting.

    Welcome to the 'Burgh!

Blue Dust is a cool little place with a pretty good draft selection a rock's throw away from where you are at. It's easy to miss, and looks like a dive bar from the outside, but don't let looks deceive you. It's right at the stop sign before you cross the tracks going towards the Waterfront area. Just make sure you go during happy hour.

Hough's is also <10min from the Waterfront in Greenfield.

I'll second Blue Dust. Love that place, but I wish I lived closer. Driving back to Lawrenceville isn't the best idea after a few. They have awesome food too.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the help. We were going to try Blue Dust eventually because it looked interesting. Happy hour for better prices? I think we will try D's today if everything works out. Anyone know about what to expect to pay for babysitters in case we try to go out one night?

You can bring your kids to D's, everyone else in the neighborhood does. It's very family friendly.

Well, don't you want to make your own judgement? They are Centennial hops that are grown on a local farm. I would definitely get a 12oz of the Wet Hopped and Regular Pacific Ring together and taste how different they are for being the same base beer but just tweaked.

Yep blue dust for sure. The Southside is a straight shot down Carson as well...

Well I have no idea when I'll have the chance to get over there so I was curious.

Side note, I saw on Facebook that Helltown released a new IPA. It's called Hop Frenzy. It's brewed with nugget, columbus, and citra and weighs in at 5.5% ABV. Anyone have it yet? Good, great, other-worldly?

Great beer, more of a well-hopped APA than an IPA, but more body and less astringency than most session IPAs. Nobody comes close around here as far as using hops as those guys.

I checked out Brixton Brewing last night in Rochester. The brewery and tap room is kind of a speakeasy with cocktails now until they take over the Hollywood Gardens. Expanded outdoor seating and some different food to come. Also getting rid of all BMC and liquor upstairs when they make the switch. Had an ipa and black ipa and both were a little above average. cool spot with good things to come. Only open on fridays at 8 but should be up and running in Hollywood Gardens soon

Had a glass at The Pittsburgh Bottleshop in Bridgeville this afternoon. I agree, more APA than IPA but still excellent. I'd say this is more of an APA and their APA is closer to an IPA. Both very good though.

Ok. So it's very vegetal. Like cucumber and celery. Steve said he took the base beer out of the fermenter and kegged it along with the wet, local "Centennial" hops and then dry hopped the rest as per Pacific Ring. If you've ever had CCB Cucumber Saison or Pipework Poivre Vert, its along those lines. Have to get yourself in the right mindset. That being said, I think they're happy its only one keg...

I like it; but I love any wet-hopped beers (if they are done properly). The oily flavor and feel is something I like. It is in no way like Pacific Ring, to me.

I'll see if I can get some on Wednesday or Thursday. I need to head over there before Friday anyway since I am heading back to my parent's house for a wedding this weekend and need to fill some growlers for my father and brother-in-law.
