I checked Beer Menus and came up with nothing closer than 65 miles from my area (w. Suffolk). Distributed by Manhattan Beer. I checked their website and Beer City in N. Babylon is one of their accounts. They didn't have any in the store but offered to look into getting some. In the interim (or if they can't get it), do any fellow BAs know another place that might have some? Thanks.

I would highly recommend that you communicate with Beer City that you are only interested in obtaining "fresh" Fruh Kolsch. They mark a best by date on the bottle but it is my understanding that they utilize a best by timeframe of 1 year. I personally refuse to buy Fruh that is more than a few (3-4) months old. The Kolsch style is a fragile style and 1 year is just too long of a best by timeframe for this style (and most styles for that matter). Cheers!
Thanks for the heads up Jack, good to know. I always look for freshness info on any beer I'm thinking about buying. I usually decline any beer that doesn't, though I make an occasional exception, most recently when I took a chance on some Augustiner Edelstoff. The bottles were clean, no dust. Had one last night—very nice, though I'm sure nothing like fresh on tap (from what I've read in threads here). Does Augustiner date their stuff and I somehow overlooked it?
I can state that I have never found any dates on the Augustiner case (and I have looked very hard). I also don't think they date their bottles either. Cheers!
