High expectations, but a very big disappointment?

I think a lot of people think since a beer is 5 times harder to get and/or 5 times more talked about than X-cheaper-beer, it is going to taste 5X better. I'm going to stand in line for PtY tomorrow. Though PtY is by far harder to get on tap around me than PtE (it's been on tap about every weekend in the area) I'm not expecting an OMGWTFBBQ difference.

"I found that if you have a goal, that you might not reach it. But if you don't have one, then you are never disappointed. And I gotta tell ya... it feels phenomenal." More or less relatable

and 2 of the three alesmith bottles i picked up on the west coast last summer - the wee heavy and old numbskull. both were very undercarbonated. i hope the speedway stout that's in the fridge fares better.

On a recent trip to Buffalo, I bought Mikkeller Beer Greek Breakfast. As a big fan of coffee/oatmeal stouts, I thought I'd enjoy it a lot. Unfortunately this beer ended up tasting a bit light, a bit too carbonated and thin for my tastes. I liked the oaty flavour, which comes through much more than in Founder's Breakfast Stout, but overall was disappointed.

Sculpin in bottle format. On tap it was an awesome tropical fruit bomb but the bottles had none of that.

I'm okay with the opinion that a brew is phenomenal. Outstanding. The best stuff I ever drank. But it just seems that when you begin the topic of stouts, at least when I have started the conversation, two things come up. KTG and DL. I tried DL (several years) and yes, it tasted pretty damn good. Best ever? No. Therefore, I would like to try KTG just to have the experience but my expectations are that it will be a well thought out and executed brew. Best ever? Probably not.

good input. They have to bring back the 10 character minimum.

Spuyten Duyvil, Millennium (3F and SA) ,Wooden Hell, Blauw, and Rose. Totally not worth what they take to get now a days.
Rose was my white whale, but if I had another bottle after trying any of them I would gladly trade it for 5/6 bottles of regular gueuze (i.e. 3F, cantillon, girardin) since I live in the gueuze wasteland that is Texas.
Moral of my post, don't go looking for your whales if you want true beer satisfaction. Just enjoy the good beer you have.

Yaaay, I put one in the back of the fridge to age, also. I wondered if it might just need a little time. :-)

I just finished the Holy Trinity of Tripels, and I started with the Tripel Karmeliet. A few days after I grabbed the Westmalle Tripel and the St. Bernardus Trip and neither I found to meet my expectations. The Tripel Karmeliet was so far superior imho and I was expecting something like that with the other 2 beers. Just no dice.

    Was it a fresh bottle?

Their lack of bottle dating doesn't help much.

Kern River Citra and Pliny The Younger. Citra smelled great but the flavor wasn't as robust as some other Alpine beers I enjoy. Younger was very smooth and drinkable but it was a tad sweeter than I expected, and I would have actually preferred some more alcohol presence.

New Holland's "Night Tripper" was mine. I went there a month or so ago, and first had a "Hopivore" nothing there for me. Then I saw a sign of a seasonal Imperial Stout "Now in". I JUMPED AT THE CHANCE! Meh to the max... I truly haven't had anything exciting from NH as of yet. Dragon's Milk has given me heart burn every time so far.

Yes I do, but there was a bunch of hype around Parabola, so I was expecting it to be amazing and not a copy cat of a beer they already make. Especially since it was the first time Firestone has ever bottled Parabola.

Every beer that anyone likes enough to take offense to my post where I say I didn't like it.
But truthfully, it was Sexual Chocolate. I'd not purchase this again. I'm not saying that it's terrible, there are just a lot of other rare AND readily available stouts I'd drink before it. I hate saying that since it's brewed locally, but I do enjoy a lot of the other Foothills beers.
