Glad to be able to have tried Eastern Standard. Would be my favorite of the 4 on that list I have had. Now...on to the 6 I haven't had yet.

I have had most of those except the Port Jeff and the Great South Bay.

I'm surprised by Peekskill - I was never a big fan of theirs. I'll have to give that one another chance.

But Hop Showers for the win imo!

I passed on the port Jeff when I saw it, mostly because of my previous experiences with port Jeff beer. Shame on me!

Hmm... Not surprised OH Hop Showers was a close 2nd. But Singlecut above Barrier Money?? I suppose everyone's taste buds work in different ways.

At times, I will compare multiple beers in one sitting and I get a lot out of doing so. The thing that I never totally get with such tastings is why the authors are more likely to end with saying "X beer is the winner" rather than saying, "On Tuesday January the 11th, while trying a few ounces of a half dozen different beers, X beer came out on top." These controlled situations are just that. Perhaps one of the bottom beers ends up shining much more on Wednesday January the 12th on its own and at 20 ounces. I am not discrediting this particular tasting in any way. Side by sides and blind tastings are great but they are also a very specific circumstance.

I love Peekskill, but dont love Eastern Standard. Now Higher Standard is another story, love that one. I would put Hop Showers above Eastern Standard for sure. Not sure if our good upstate friend had Hop Showers when he was at the tap room last month, but if he was interested in his take.

I must try this Other Side's Hop Showers. I haven't heard anything about the brewery, but it must be damn good to come in 2nd with a bunch of established names.

    I kid, I kid.

I can't speak for the half stack, but I recently had fresh Billy Full Stack and was really, really impressed. Right up there, and after that tasting I was unsurprised to see them on this list.

I have had Party Boat previously and didn't love it... BUT, I recently had it again, this time out of a can, and it seems like a different beer to me now.

I would agree... had It yesterday in the can and was impressed. I don't remember it being that good on tap a year or 2 ago... it wasn't the hop profile I loved most but it was hoppy as hell and as it warmed the malt stood out a ton. It wouldn't surprise me if it's a new/altered recipe.

I agree with you totally however the only way to put that to rest is to have all the beers brewed and drank on the same exact day, and drank for a week straight, then do the exact same thing a year later while assuring me there is no way b1 would differ from b2 for any molecular reason, while again assuring me you were in the same exact health and mood as the year before and your tastes haven't changed. Your point is 100% correct. Too many factors. I enjoy reading them and see what people think.

Nice too see Party Boat getting some recognition. Bought some more when they released another batch 07/28/14. Pick some up, won't get any fresher. Regardless of which IPA came out on top, good to see that we have such difficult decisions to make around here.... It's like asking which one of my kids I like best.

Hop Showers not on the day I visited, would love to try it, and every other beer from Other Half. Eastern Standard is probably my 6th favorite of Peekskill's hoppy pales. All the beers on that list I haven't tried I would certainly love to try.

All I can say is things just get better and better. On now at Rushing Duck, for instance, is a fantastic IPA done with Remarkable Liquids, as well as Naysayer Pale Ale done with Belma hops. And Peekskill has Yeah Jeets, a new tasty hop treat, and another, whose name slips my mind, is a hoppy Brett IPA, very deep funk and pungent hop in this one.

Just a great time for fine beer lovers now.

Yeah, that's the one, not on a level with others mentioned, perhaps, but really good, and the sheer variety of treats we have made locally now is just fantastic. We can argue about who made the list, who didn't, but it wasn't too long ago there weren't enough great ones made locally to even have a top ten list.
