I've really wanted to try Crime or Punishment lately, despite the poor ratings. I think they would be really interesting beers to try just once, but I really don't want to give up an arm and a leg for one. I don't know much about their availability either; are they pretty much all gone or are they collecting dust in the cellar, waiting to be given away? Anyway, what would I be expecting to give up to trade for one?

About 15 minutes now while standing up and about 30 minutes tomorrow morning while sitting down.

I would think you could easily trade for it. I'm sitting my bottle of punishment hoping time will mellow it out some ( crime was rough, but not as bad as Ghostfacekilla) . I'm thinking any asking for more than $ for $ would be delusional...

25 bucks a bottle in Ohio it was super rare, my buddy bought one of each but he has a Stone tattoo with plans on more Stone Gargoyle tattoos...so I understand why he bought them. We shared one of the two together it was hilarious, we were laughing at how bad we were suffering.

Where in NY are you? Both are still easy to find on the island. If you're not on the island I can acquire them for you.

Basically all you have to do to experience these beers is mix some vodka with tabasco sauce and maybe throw in a pinch of arrogant bastard and you'll experience Crime.

I can get both off the shelf in Seattle, I'd imagine it's the same for anyone in Cali.

Ghostface is a good one to cook with.
I've heard of some amazing chili recipes with it.
As a matter of fact, Twisted Pine does a chili cook off each year.
If you try it and can't do it. Cook with it. Chili, cornbread, bloody mary.

Slightly off topic, but I would really love to hear someone from Stone give an HONEST retrospective on the release of these beers. Did they actually think they were good and worth the money? Did they think that, hell, maybe people just want an extreme experience? Do they think, now, that it was a bad idea?

And I also wonder, is it even possible to make a beer that hot that's good? Did they actually succeed insofar as this is as good as a super hot beer can get?

Given my impatience I'm sure it will be no more a year or two at the most, bit 10 years is probably more prudent...

Yeah great chilli addition, but can just as much goodness from Ghost Pepper Cheese or Dave's Insanity sauce. I liked Twisted Pine's Original Chile beer much more, you could actually enjoy that.

I was thinking many more scovils than Tabasco, hell that doesn't really bother me, although I prefer Crystal hot sauce by a country mile.

I remember Punishment was $26 at release at my local shop. I remember because I paid for it :slight_frown:

Now you'll find it for around $20 because no ones bought it since.

They are sitting on the shelf in Florida...

However if I were you I would just buy a case of Duvel. Divide equally into two buckets. Add a lb of pepper to each one. Add a lb of grated Parmesan to one and a lb of mixed grated Parmesan and Cheddar to the other. Let sit for 2 weeks. Strain. Drink.

It'll give you the exact same experience and be cheaper and easier.

With a case of Duvel running, what, $40, decent parm at $15 - $20, cheddar being $5 - $8, a pound of pepper running who knows how much, and this requiring 2 weeks of on and off effort .... I think you've just devised a recipe that's neither cheaper nor easier.
