I was surprised how good it was when I tasted it for the first time at the brewery. Whenever I go to Cortland to visit the in-laws I always stop in.

    #1 - Selin's Grove

The rest hardly compare but honorable mention to Avery's Rumpkin, Schlafly, Spring House, Elysian's Great Pumpkin, Southern Tier warlock/pumking and CCB Good Gourd

After several years of trying every pumpkin beer I can find, I've got my pumpkin buying down to a science:

    1case Schlafly pumpkin
2x packs Stevens Point Whole Hog Pumpkin
as many Elysium Dark o the Moon as I can find
And a couple bottles of Neshamniy Creek Punkel Dunked

I'll also buy a few bottles of a good chocolate stout to mix with the Schlafly or Steven Point, especially if I can't find any Dark o the Moon. Haven't had Good Gourd, Pumpkinator or Aleworks yet since they're not available around here unfortunately.

    Dogfish Head Punkin is great.

I also really enjoy Starr Hill's Boxcar Pumpkin Porter.

Does anyone in Eastern PA/Philly/Bucks or Long Island know if CC Gourd is distributed there? I really want to try that this fall. And how easy is it to find Alewerks pumpkin in those areas?

I don't thing Cigar City distributes anywhere in your area....sadly (or mine either!)

I have seen other Alewerks beers at the Wegman's in Easton PA area, but am told the Alewerks pumpkin sells out as fast as they put it out in that area....I travel to e. pa and nj often, so I get beers there I cannot get in NE Ohio......good luck in your pumpkin search! You may want to try setting up a trade with someone in FL for the CCB Good Gourd!

Yeah, have heard that Selin's Grove pumpkin is amazing....sure wish they would bottle / distro it - it is not exactly in a well traveled area of PA unfortunately! Would love to try that one.....

That will never happen. They are too small of an operation to do any type of packaging other than growler filling and that isnt an option for this beer because they serve it on nitro. They hardly make enough to keep just the locals satisfied! Part of the glamour of it is that Steve doesnt even consider brewing it until we are truely "in the season." Also...serving it on nitrogen plays a significant factor into what makes it unique/special. That nitro texture = pumpkin whipped cream. Its the only pumpkin ale I look forward to.

I know Trenton Road Takeout gets Jai Alai in from time to time and I also found some Hopped on the High Seas at a place in Syosset NY (although it was pretty old - wish I had inspecyed the cans!). Hoping theres a place or two that gets Good Gourd.

Have heard about their size.....was just wishful thinking on my part!

Guess I should detour north sometime off I-80 while I am zooming eastward to visit my girl in NJ....have wanted to visit Selin's Grove for quite some time now! Thanks......

I hear Good Gourd is spectacular. Hope I get to try one this year. Aged ST Pumking is my current jam. I usually drink the previous year's that I bought and keep it going. Buy this year's and let it sit for next year. etc. haha.

This is an easy question for me, since I kinda despise most pumpkin beers.

The only one I really thoroughly enjoy would be Smuttynose. Very little spice, not quite so heavy, legitimately natural pumpkin flavor, well-hopped. Just an all around great beer rather than one that tastes like someone poured the spice cabinet into my beer.

I think Night Owl is very underrated in my opinion. I think the maltiness shines thought the spice and I like that they use more ginger than cinnamon. It's a beer I look forward to each season now.
