    Reading through some of the posts on the BIF Hints and Hauls and stuff like that and I am not understanding any of it. Any help with some explanation?

    BIF = Beer it Forward. Often if not always involves receiving a box of beer and then sending a bottle of beer after receiving one.

    H&H = Hints and Hauls. Once targets have been assigned people often provide hints as to who their box is going to. In the initial steps it is pretty vague and better hints are given as time elapses.

    That's what I was seeing a lot of in H&H, I just didn't know if it was certain people that do it, or if someone can get into it or what they would need to know/do. Just wasn't making a whole lot of sense to me and was trying to get a better grasp of it all.
    Thanks

    I still don't really understand what it means, how it works and what the point is.

    You need to sign up for a BIF when there's a signup, either someone announcing a new BIF (like the Locals was a couple months ago) or in between BIF rounds if the BIF is looking to add people for the next round. In the BIFs that have a Hints & Hauls thread typically each person will have a target and a sender. You won't know who your sender is and the hints are a fun way to try and figure it out. You send your target some beer based on the organizer's description. Some do all stouts, some do all locals, etc. And you'll receive beer as well of course.

    Most if not all of the Beer it Forward (BIF) trades are setup up with 2 unique threads;
    1. Sign Up for BIF. Example here http://www.beeradvocate.com/communi...traight-up-bif-round-2-summer-edition.193713/
    2. What did you get thread? This is where folks post what they got from their sender. Usually there a 2-3 week break from signing up to sending out the boxes of beer. This is to give a chance for folks to buy beer in your "wants" list and other goodies. During this 2-3 week period, folks sending beers start giving hints for others to figure out who you are sending. We make a game out of it. Below are some of the hints that I have to my sender. Example of such thread; http://www.beeradvocate.com/communi...ound-2-summer-edition-hints-and-hauls.195449/
    • Shipping East (Based on my location, <<<<look under homer)
    • It is 2 hours ahead of my time
    • there is a nfl, nba, mlb, and nhl team in this state

    Really depends on the BIF. Its rarely OMGWhalez!!1!!1 status stuff. At least in the Locals BIF I'm a part of its generally whatever good stuff is available locally (as is fairly obvious from the name of the BIF). We mostly focus on getting stuff to people that they haven't had before and trying to hit some wants if possible. I'd say BIFs tend to be like that to some extent in that many participate in order to try some new beer, not in order to track down the most awesomest beers ever. On the other hand, side trades tend to happen pretty often in BIFs as well since the people know each other pretty well.

    ISO OMGWhalez BIF. Not to participate, but rather just to lurk in the H&H thread to see what gets thrown back and forth.

    I like this concept. I have pretty good locals, and I honestly don't know what I want that I can't get, as I haven't tried it. Would be happy to be in a BIF where I sent Wormtown, JA, Maine, Wachusett Larry and got back stuff like Jai Alai that I can't get.

    Take a look at some of the BIFs then :slight_smile: That's right up the alley of The Locals BIF. Next round is probably going to be in a month or two. Not sure if the organizer of the next round is taking additional people or not (but probably is), but can't hurt to ask.

    I tried to encourage folks in the Stout III sign-up thread to commit to sending a few whales so that I wasn't the only one doing so: http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/stout-bif-round-iii.192162/page-4#post-2592259

    In the Hints & Hauls thread I pretty much gave away who my target was almost right away when I was amazed they did not have BA Abraxas on their wants list: http://www.beeradvocate.com/communi...nd-iii-hints-hauls.196729/page-3#post-2624687

    He's getting it anyways in Box #2. :slight_smile:
