Don't know if you guys knew but for those wanting a taste of TDD, here's an appointment you can't miss http://www.canadianbeernews.com/2012/05/31/le-trou-du-diable-touching-down-in-toronto-this-weekend/
this will be a mob scene of a crowd, and the word is that it is only bottles despite others tweeting its on tap i warned you guys..people i know are staying away, it will be the new hipsters
Sammy is just an old man that hates everything but saying that the first Le Trou du Diable event they had a Volo the Moranas said it was the busiest they had ever been including their cask festivals.
I've never been to WVRST but from what I hear it is the size of about 5 volos. It isn't difficult for Volo to be a mad house (given their limited size).
This event was really good. The space was amazing--not crowded, lines were minimal because the bar is really long. Food was good. Tastes were expensive ($11 for a 5oz is a bit excessive), but it was great to try the TDD beers. Would definitely prefer events be held at Wvrst rather than at Volo.
i hope you stayed away. really, i do. it was amazing. very busy and once they got the bottles pouring, it was excellent. great time. we were buying the $44 bottles of barrel-aged Buteuse and sharing them. top 5 beer in Canada. Andre, the brewmaster, was a great guy. can't wait until the DdC day. that, my friends, will be a gong show.
Sammy ask the wise old owl yourself the next time you are at Volo, his two young owlets will tell you the same.
Sorry to say I called ahead and had to bow out of this one due to the taste prices. I would have wanted to try everything and spent way too much It didn't help that I needed to pack for a 9am flight to Chicago Sunday morning either. I might try for the DdC tap takeover considering I'd be able to get full pours.
In the CanBIF I got a 18 oz of Tracker, it was good, but 11$ for 5 oz, that is crazy. Drive to Quebec in a mini van taking so orders and filling it would be better! LOL.
I think he's saying that you shouldn't expect pints of whatever is on tap. Perhaps tulips/half-pours etc.
You mean I won't be able to get an imperial pint of BA Peche Mortel!? But yes, 10 oz tulips are the best I would've hoped for. Haven't seen a DdC beer in anything larger since I've been in Toronto.
