New Glarus sour

    Agree that NG's use of fruit in beer is unrivaled.

    I'm not completely sure this statement is true, but we should probably at least get the context correctly. Perhaps we should say they are and have always been the most important American brewery putting out sour beer. The market for sour beer is admittedly different today than it was 20 years ago, but they's been making Belgian Red since 1993.

    It's completely my opinion, but I think RR surpassed every other American brewery in the past 10 years when it comes to traditional sour beers. Vinnie's work with wild yeast & bacteria is on par with Dan's ability to brew with fruit, but I think Vinnie dove into barreling sours on a more productive scale, at least in terms of distribution. RR has thrown brewers all over the West Coast, and now nearly every brewery of note has some sort of souring program.

    Ok. So please provide a little more context on why New Glarus is going "to be the most important American brewery putting out sour beers over the next 10-15 years", aside from his uncanny ability with fruit.

    For what it's worth, I actually think it is going to be someone like New Belgium or Goose Island. They make very good, if not great, sour beer, and they have a much bigger distribution footprint. Not going to argue that that others don't make better sour beer, but "to be the most important American brewery putting out sour beers over the next 10-15 years" I think you'll need to have a massive distribution.

    Distribution != influence. What New Glarus has brought to the table is integrity + skill + consistency, which is a combination that seems to have won the attention and respect of brewers/breweries all over the country.

    I thought the event was really smooth and a ton of fun! I wasn't planning on grabbing any peach Saturday and when I strolled in around 10:30 I was able to snag a ticket then drank Strawberry Rhubarb and Belgian Red on tap, what could be better!?

    Dan and Deb really know how to be a part of the community, they listened to their fans, tailored the event to accommodate the large crowd and cut down on the folks trying to double dip for the release.

    Big thanks to the many folks that shared their beer, hope you guys enjoyed the few I brought along as well!

    Nobody is....you have to trade your trunk load of Fuzzy for one bottle of R&D Peach.
