Hey Y'all. So its been three years. We are marking this years anniversary with a small batch bigger boat with coffee. For those of you who remember SS2012 its basically that beer tweaked with Sorachi and Lemon Drop Hops and some Yirgacheffe coffee. Let us know what you think:

SS 2014 YIRGACHEFFE (Need a Bigger Boat Series)
    ABV: 8.2% | IBU: 60 | SRM: 9

While playing coffee games last winter, even though they didn’t work for that project, we found ourselves attracted to the bitter lemony notes of cold brewed Ethiopian Yirgacheffe from our partners at Fair Mountain Coffee Roasters. While playing our usual hoppy games recently we were similarly inspired by the lemony bitterness of the new "Lemon Drop" hop from our friends at Hopsteiner. With "SS 2014 Yirgacheffe" we bridge our “Need A Bigger Boat” recipe from 2012 to these flavors with the helping hand of the lemon notes of Sorachi Ace hops. Drink SS 2014 Yirgacheffe (Need A Bigger Boat) because we only turn 3 once.

Carton does wonderful things with coffee in beer, so I am beyond psyched for this one.

considering Regular Coffee was the best coffee-forward brew I've ever had, anything with the words "coffee" and "Carton" in the name gets me excited. looking forward to trying it!

Starting from boat we've always had some splainin to do (remember when a small, super hoppy, crisp, yellow, ale needed explaining?) The reason ours are good is the partnership with Brian Casse.
If you want more/better videos explaining what a brewer's doing tell your favorites to reach out to him. We got very lucky the day he walked in to a Carton event and said "you mind if a shoot this for my site?"

Does "small batch" mean similar distro to Regular Coffee, or narrower?

They are within a couple/15 barrels of each other, give or take. A lot of hop loss here that doesn't happen in Reg. More like Panzanella size
Small batch means its only on the brew schedule once for the foreseeable future. If you go to or youtube page there are 3 categories for our content
"menu" (we try to make available full time within confines of our size usually, except when a writer says something nice and we fall behind or we throw MCTW for a larger production and mess up our rhythms)
"specials" (some ingredient or idea inspired us to make it, so we made it, these may or may not be made again depending on all kinds of factors)
"catering" (these we make for a particular venue to go with their menu and should always be at those places. these come to events sometimes)
depending on how its categorized there you should get a feel for its availability.
When we retool our site (working on that too) beers will be identified in this manner.

I can walk to that bar. Nice place and good brew selection. I just wish they would stay open later. I can understand during the week closing earlier but there have been some Friday nights that they are closed by 11. Ridiculous.

It's much more of a restaurant than a bar.
