I'm an amateur photographer, probably shouldn't even say that. I'm having a helluva time getting beer photos down to 20k. I have photoshop and can easily get the 150 x 300 and 72 dpi, but even at low quality I'm only down to 35k. Any more suggestions other than what is on the guideline page for photos?

I'm in Germany and would love to contribute photos for the beers as I buy and drink them.

    Cheers, 17!

I don't understand this stuff to be able to say why this might help, but when I need to get the bytes down a few points to get under 20 I open the photo file with MS Paint, then save it without changing the filename, and then close it. Usually there is a drop in the number of bytes, although it's never a sizeable amount. Maybe it will work for you.

I'm on an iMac, but I did try saving with other programs just to see. Turns out my file is actually 90kb, I even changed it to gray scale and took out the color and I still am nowhere near 20kb. Guess I better ask my daughter, she's better than me at these things.

Just realized I'm shooting RAW images, which are huge. I'll try setting the image size to a much smaller size tomorrow and see how that turns out. I'll post my results of the test tomorrow.

It's a pain, but I used this website for editing (cropping, size adjustment) sometimes if I specify wanting the picture size no greater than 20kb it works: http://www.picresize.com/

IF it doesnt work, I save the picture (which will usually be 66-90kb) and load it in this website: http://www.fotor.com/ and simply save under 'high' quality which will fall anywhere from 12-18kb.

@rudzud, thanks i'll try that after work tonight. I'll also try resizing the image size in camera and taking it from a further distance. results to be seen soon, maybe i'll be able to do a comparison.

fotor.com seemed to easily do the trick. Thanks! Now I know how to resize so I can start getting pics of the beers in Europe into the BA database. :-)

I did personally find that using fotor alone (to resize) affected the picture quality more than using the other website, but, to each their own. Your welcome.

If you have photoshop, this is easy - just go to File -> Save for web & devices, and then you can choose the file size by increasing or decreasing the "Quality" setting.

@Resuin, thanks for the tip puts it down to 12kb. Now I see why my daughter said it would take her "like 3 seconds" to get it done after she came home from work. She is a photographer. Well, I'll be filling those empty images as best I can.
