That's when you say, good more for me. Who gives a shit.

I'm sure the people that love red wine or scotch hated it when they first drank it. Like anything it's an acquired taste.

I have heard this same comment countless times about Sculpin and Pliny. A great brew transcends all palates.

To a certain extent. I'm not a fan of all of sours or these lambics. And for some reason a lot of guys have hardons for this style of "beer". I don't care what their rating is, I'd rather have a stellar BA stout or double IPA than have to drink those.

Never had Inversion but if I heard that I would think it actually meant, "The IPAs I've tried taste good but are too bitter/dry but that one is not".

There are so many styles and styles within styles that everyone has a preference. I'd much rather have a good porter than a highly rated Belgian Quad like Rochefort because I'm not a big fan of Quads or most Belgians besides Lambics or Guezes, and Saisons. Everyone values certain styles over others.

edit: That's why I sometimes prefer a certain website that also factors in a rating within styles and overall because sometimes a RIS that is rated a 4 is only in the 50th percentile, while a brown ale may be rated a 3.8 but is in the 90th percentile.

I tend to notice people who say that prefer maltier IPAs, which is the opposite of what I want.

it's either that or the completely other side -- that they hate malty IPAs and haven't had the chance to try an IPA fresh, so their perception of IPAs is skewed.

21st amendments Brew free or die is a good one. I also like Golden Road's save the bay IPA. Or any of Oskar Blues pales are excellent also.

Maybe that is it. And also why I prefer self scan aisles.

But here is the thing. I dont care for stouts, its not a style I drink. If I found one I liked (and there are some that are more drinkable than others), I wouldnt go out of the way to recommend it to my stout loving friends, because I know what they like, and its those flavors that keep me away from stouts.

But when I do, I prefer Dos Equis.

    Wait what?

My wife gave me two bottles of it last night for my birthday (which is today). That was max allowed to be purchased at local store.

    Im looking forward to it.

I don't normally drink PA/IPA/DIPA, but I like Westbrook One Claw Rye Pale Ale and COAST Boy King DIPA. At the same time true hop-heads might not like it, because it's so smooth.

I might take a stab at saying maybe the guy locked into a fresh IPA. Most ipa on the shelf here I highly doubt are under 2 months old, and I would bet serious money brews like Avery and Modus might be older. I see 6-8 month old Gordon's damn near everywhere , and Dales can be reasonably fresh. Old IPAs suck, if you can't date it don't buy it, and best buy dates help only a little.

Right? 33 responses to this thread with some labeling him as afraid of IPA's, him not knowing IPA's, him having drank only bad IPA's, him having an abnormal experience of IPA's, etc. Jesus. The guy's working the register at a liquor store, he made a positive comment about the purchase. Not everything has so much meaning.....

One Claw is outstanding, if it was local I'd definitely stock it.

Most IPAs are crap, so it's not surprising that the better ones can appeal to people who don't think they like IPAs.

I can understand the comment. Different flovor profiles will get different reactions. My father in law hated Heady but loved Lunch. I don't typically like stouts but I enjoy KBS and That's What She Said...its all about the variations within each beer style.

At least The Most Interesting Man in the World doesn't drink Corona Extra.

Frankly, though, I want to meet the Modelo girls.

Didn't like IPAs the first couple of times I tried them. Oddly enough, Leinie's Hoppin' Helles, a hopped up helles stlyle, turned me around. I still don't drink a lot of IPAs or DIPAs, but I don't turn up my nose at them either.

Pass me another Hop Stoopid, dude...
