Agreed KBBS is an entirely different beast, is like to think I could pick them all out in a blind taste test.

I went up to decorah in July and did some canoeing. That and camping is about the only things I would think to do there, unless you want to watch some Luther football.

Clark told me that its because Mornin' Delight is such an expensive beer to brew. That's why they don't brew it that often.

This seems like a really stupid excuse. If you're guaranteed to sell the beer, who gives a shit how much it costs to make?

Then ask Clark yourself. LOL. Just saying what he told me. Why would I have any reason not to believe him?

I'm not saying you inaccurately relayed Clark's statement. I'm saying that if that's his actual reason, it doesn't make sense.

Agreed. Cost should be insignificant if you know it will sell out immediately. There are many factors that could limit supply...cost shouldn't be one if the demand is there.

    Really isn't that simple.

I've never worked in a brewery so someone can chime in if they know more but this is an incredibly simple example. Let's say you buy all the ingredients in January, this costs you $10,000. You brew it February 1 and it's ready by March 1. You bottle it and ship out to distributors by March 15. Now the distributor owes you $20,000 for purchasing the beer. However, they don't pay you until April 15. You've now gone over 100 days since the date of purchasing the expensive ingredients. In that time you have to pay your employees and all the other costs associated with making beer, electricity, water, etc. Let's say that's $9000. Not to mention that you've disrupted your normal brewing operations to make this beer costing you more money. So now you've spent a ton and you're waiting to get paid. If something goes wrong you're out all the money it costs you to make it and for a small brewery running slim margins that probably has a lot of debt there are a lot of risks with brewing this expensive beer that will definitely sell out. So I think it makes a lot of sense.

His brother-in-law makes very good syrup but there's not enough of that available to brew the larger size batches. Most of that syrup finds its way onto pancakes!

The reason is not that it's expensive. When I was first making the beer at home, it only took about 12-14 hours on brewday. Scaling it up takes me 36 hours to achieve what I want out of the beer. Once or maybe twice in a year's time is enough.

14 hour brew day at home!?!? Hezeus tap dancing crisp, batman!!! I thought my 7 hour brew days were rough. 2 hr mash? then 2 hr boil? 10 hours cleaning maple syrup out of every nook and cranny, person included? In other news, really hoping to get a taste of the brew. Mike, FT: imperial coffee porter homebrew with maple syrup as priming sugar. ISO: one MD.

36 hours?!! That takes a whole lot of coffee, Red Bull, and/or amphetamines to make it through that (not asking for disclosure). Or is it the smiles and compliments of everyone who waits in a 1/2-1 hr long line to taste 2 oz of the epic nectar and us folks showing up to the taproom at noon to cash a 1/6 barrel in under 20 minutes that keeps you up for 36 hours? Regardless, thanks for your hard work in bringing us this amazing beer. Hope to taste some soon

Thanks for the clarification Mike! Those 36 hours are well worth the masterpiece you and the TG staff create!

I'm shocked by how much crap TG gets on BA. They are by far the best brewery in the state and arguably the best brewery in the entire midwest. Their prices are reasonable and they seem to have some core values they hold true too. And they still come to BA to respond to the babies who feel a sense of entitlement instead of just being thankful TG consistently puts out amazing product for us to enjoy.

Alright off my soapbox, time to open a Pseudo bomber and watch Man U lose. Opening day of EPL is my Christmas. Go Everton

I think Mike was just responding to misinformation, not entitled babies. There are a few other points of your soapbox tirade I won't touch on,except for being thankful. I should be thankful for a business' existence? I'll make sure to throw Walmart and Pancheros into the thanking portion of my prayers them.

Oh son of a bitch. We made it two pages in this TG thread. I honestly don't know why the TG folks respond on here anymore. I appreciate their information, but I wouldn't if I were them. They make as much world class beer as any small brewery could possibly pump out, only to have people whine about every possible aspect of it. Things I never even considered that someone could bitch about seems to happen in these threads. I think @Gerbs2 was pretty spot on.
