This thread is awesome, thank you! We will be in Portland in a couple weeks. Any suggestions for hotels? Don't want to spend $500/night, but looking for something nice. Doesn't have to be near the beer bars, just trying to narrow things down a bit and would love some local insight. Thank you!

We stayed here when we visited Portland in July. http://lionrose.com/

Not cheap, but not $500 a night either. We enjoyed our stay there.

    check my map for suggestions:wink:

Also hotwire, downtown, and 3.5+ stars and you can get something nice.

Will you be there Sept. 6th? If so...

Cool, I'll check out the maps now, didn't realize they had hotels on them.

Unfortunately we're heading back to Boston on September 1. That looks like an awesome event though!

Modera is all right but be aware that it's just a renovated Travelodge or something along those lines so parts of it still show its age.

Thanks, very good to know. We tend to like the more boutique style places but want something bigger than a B&B.

Any thoughts on the Paramount hotel from the Portland locals?

Will you have a car while you're out? Public transportation in town is great, but in terms of finding a hotel around Labor Day, you might have better luck near the airport or out in the burbs. You could likely find a pretty nice spot in and around Lake Oswego, Troutdale, Beavorton and/or Hillsboro, and will be no more than 15 minutes or so from most of the better downtown spots.

We might rent a car, but undecided at the moment. Either way we want to stay in the city.

Kinda crazy even though i live in Salem and work in Wilsonville..haven't been on a pub crawl in Portland for 10 years!
Thinking of coming up for my birthday Thursday Oct 9th and maybe staying 10th too.
Was looking at the near east side as there are a bunch of breweries, bars and restaurants in close vicinity.
Looking at the hotel choices i like the price of Jupiter but the rooms are horrendous to my tastes ( decor).
Any other choices nearby on the East of the river?
McMenamins White Eagle? I dont mind pissing in the same pot as everyone else.

Guajolote has requested that I lock this one down, given that we're getting close to the end of summer and near fall now. He's now updated the old thread to reflect a Summer/Fall version, so I'm going to lock this one down now.
