Everyone who was there at six was able to get all the beers they wanted to try and the porter kicked at 641 on the dot the bonita about ten mins after so your time might be a bit off. As for the smoking if you don't like it don't go there, if you do go there don't complain about it. Its like whining about getting sand in your shorts at the beach.

Finally getting around to posting more of my beer schedule. Went to Cirque du Saison at Tapestry on Sunday which was a lot of fun. Really laid back with great food and beers. Tried some nice Stillwater beers and Italian saisons before heading over to Monk's. It was packed for Funky Buddha but the beers were incredible. The Nib Smuggler didn't fit in with the berlinerweisses but was still good. The Passion Fruit and Key Lime were my favorites but the Raspberry and Peach were great as well.

After Monk's we headed over to the FC Italian Beer Fest which was a lot of fun. Great selection and food. Got to try Del Borgo ReAle on cask, ReAle 6th anniversary and Baladin Al-Ixir on cask.

I'm glad that most of you skipped Woody's because we were able to go in and polish off the Maple Bacon Coffee Porter and surprisingly delicious PiƱa Colada. Went to Varga afterward for FW Velvet Merkin and dinner. Not a bad Sunday.

I haven't been to Hulmeville yet. How do they get away with allowing smoking? Not that I mind, I'm just curious how it's allowed there. I do miss being able to light up a fine ceegar right at the bar (and Easton is so far away).

If less than 20% of your revenue is from food sales, you can allow smoking.

Up bright and early at 6am for work, took my milk thistle...can't wait for Prohibition Taproom tonight. Also really looking forward to Teresa's on Saturday. Glad we just visited Hill Farmstead so we can focus on getting the collaboration brews.

Not so much in the city (except usually the dives), or in the burbs at BA-listed bars, but yeah the smoking bars are around.

Today does seem like a big beer dinner day on the calendar (from the PBW one more so than the BA one). Gotta soak up all the beer from so far. Some thoughts on the likely big crowd events today -

    - The Session Beer Forum at Farmers' Cabinet (where if you are a Northeast bar owner and from a nationally-known bar, you are likely here).
    - Cigar City/Funky Buddha at Prohibition Taproom (pretty much wherever those breweries go)
    - Founders Lunch at Jose Pistola's/Founders night at Capone's/Firestone Walker at Good Dog (ditto the CC/FB line)
    - The Sam Calgione Happy Hour party at Nodding Head (he draws pretty much wherever)
    - The sour takeover at Eulogy (even the press is running with the article "sour is the new IPA this year")
    - New Holland takeover at Teresa's (bunch of sours there as well)
    - The "Dunkel Dare" event at Frankford Hall (one of the more unique "antics" events this week... they even got the original Double Dare host Marc Summers to come do it)

Heavy Metal "Happy Hour" with Iacopo Lenci of Bruton 9:00 pm - 12:00 am
Location: Alla Spina Neighborhood: Fairmount/Spring Garden Price: Pay As You Go
Category: Beer Tasting , Music , Meet The Brewer

    Details

Iacopo Lenci might be known for his flamboyant appearance but he makes nothing short of rocksteady beer styles. Come out for a Heavy Metal Late Night Happy Hour and enjoy discounted flights of some of Italy's best offerings. Iacopo will be controlling the tunes for the night and partaking in his second love - showcasing little known metal bands (he used to run a rock club at his brewery until he was faced with the choice of limiting production or continuing as a concert venue!)

The calendars have it going off at 5pm although from my experiences at takeovers it doesn't hurt to show up a half-hour to an hour early as places will throw stuff on beforehand. The good thing about Prohibition is that it's a little less-known/out-of-the-way (hidden gem bar) so it shouldn't be swamped with foot traffic folks, mainly locals and beer geeks I would think. It'll probably get crowded after whatever show is at Union Transfer as it's one of the closest bars to it, but that wouldn't be til late.

That's a good time and it's an easy walk from Prohibition. On top of that, Alla Spina just got a monster review from Laban so that place and those beers will likely be flying tonight. Rifugium I think is a metalhead too so hopefully he catches this.

    Have fun!

The De Molen event at Monk's last night was absolutely incredible. $5 pours of extremely delicious and incredibly rare BA beers with all proceeds going to charity. He could have charged $12-15 per glass. I love peat whiskey and smoked malt flavor so this was a dream lineup for me. The speyside whiskey BA quad was a nice change of pace, providing a decent amount of sweetness that I was looking for after all of that heavy, smokey peat. Thanks to Tom, De Molen and the people from DiBruno Brothers for putting together this amazing event.

It seemed incredibly kind of De Molen to donate the kegs and then Tom do it for charity as a result.

edit: Oh and the CityTapHouse Goose Island event last night was great too. Slightly expensive but not too surprising. Got two pours of BCBS and could have had way more. Juliet was delicious and even Marisol was quite good. That and the Goose Island marketing guy, Andrew, talked to me for a long while about a whole bunch of interesting stuff.

Agreed, really cool of them to donate everything. DiBruno's donated the cheese pairings as well(only $2) and Tom told me that they raised $3,000 for Alex's Lemonade Stand. A great event for a great cause.

Well I'm at Prohibition Taproom...somehow made it from 56th and Chestnut where I work to 13th and Buttonwood on Septa in 25 minutes...lots of time to kill now I guess. I think I'll start with a beer.

Can you post back around 5 and let us know how many people are already there. I know that the Bonita one of the Berlinners is in South Philly. Might go there instead if super crowded at Prohibition. Thanks if you can spare any more information in about an hour.
