What would some local recommendations be for an overnight stay in Portland? I will be in town on the 19th - 20th on my beer-cation and then moving on the Bend the 21st. Any inexpensive hotels within walking distance of good breweries or tap rooms where I could finish my night?

I'm looking for any tip on any place that serves up a good tripel, perhaps even a house tripel, on tap. Tripels aren't really that easy to find on tap in my limited experience, but I'm hoping I might get lucky when we are in Portland later this falll. My wife is a fiend for tripels, and I'd love to have some place front-loaded for her.

Tried checking out aribnb? Jupiter hotel is in a great location and sometimes has specials.
Or hotwire and choose downtown. Getting around via street car, the max and buses is super easy. You can also check the map I posted for some other hotel ideas.

    cheers

Your best bet is probably to follow some of the bars that have extensive tap lists/great tap lists: Baileys, Beer Mongers, Apex, Tin Bucket, Growler Guys and see if they happen to have something on whilst you are there.
    Good luck and enjoy!

I have not had the one from Cascade, which is excellent when it comes to wild ales, but the other 3 breweries are not exactly who I would recommend seeking out.
Best Belgian beer producers in PDX would have to be Upright and The Commons, but I do not recall them churning out any tripels. Upright made one once, but I forget...

as a StrongRepublican you may have a rude awakening with some of the people you might end up renting a room from on airbnb in PDX, just an fyi.

    cheers

Haha I appreciate the concern; it's a handle I've been using for ten years and should really read more like "strongly opinionated about fiscal conservatism but leaning heavily towards straight Libertarian"

Either way, I like to think of myself as not a dick head and pretty much get along with everyone.

Hopworks released a nice Tripel this year. Not sure if it will be available in the fall but worth checking out if it's still pouring.

My wife likes tripels too. She enjoyed the one from pFriem up in Hood River, though I'm not sure how often they brew it.

Terminal Gravity has a fairly decent tripel out right now as well. It's called Tap Out. Not sure about availability, but if we get it down here in Eugene, it should likely be available in PDX as well.

I had a tripel at Ft George that was up to my very amateur standards. However, Ft George is in Astoria, and this post is very unhelpful.

I've seen it on tap recently at a few different spots in and around Portland.

Might want to check out the Abbey Bar on NW 21st, they'll probably have a tripel of some type on tap.

@Nutwood You might also want to check out bazi bierbrasserie as it is a "Belgian" beer bar on the PDX east side. Their tap list varies, but might net you a nice tripel

I'll give this new version a quick bump, just so folks know we now have a new, more current version.

Kinda crazy even though i live in Salem and work in Wilsonville..haven't been on a pub crawl in Portland for 10 years!
Thinking of coming up for my birthday Thursday Oct 9th and maybe staying 10th too.
Was looking at the near east side as there are a bunch of breweries, bars and restaurants in close vicinity.
Looking at the hotel choices i like the price of Jupiter but the rooms are horrendous to my tastes ( decor).
Any other choices nearby on the East of the river?
McMenamins White Eagle? I dont mind pissing in the same pot as everyone else.

    (re-post from earlier thread)

If you don't care about hip, there are multiple hotels near lloyd center. There's also McMenimins Kennedy School which is not in the most beer rich area, but Breakside is close by. I would stay downtown, probably at the Ace Hotel, and utilize the street car to brewery hop around downtown and the central eastside.
