    Hello my fellow beer lovers,

I've been reading reviews in this website for a while now, but I only started writing them myself a couple of weeks ago. It is something I really enjoy doing - sitting down with a glass of a nice brew, and reviewing it as I taste it.

I noticed many people say "I drank this a while ago" in their reviews. Personally I have a bit of trouble remembering every hint/flavor/note in a beer's aroma, for example. I like to give the beer quite a few sniffs to capture its aroma thoroughly before I review it.

Am I the only one that has trouble reviewing a beer if I don't have a glass in my hands? Or is that a common thing? I could definitely review a beer I drank last week, but I believe the review wouldn't be quite as thorough and detailed as it would be if I was drinking the beer while reviewing it.

take notes, IF you want to review. besides while some may post for others to read, I post for me. I don't taste what anything else does so why would any one care about my review....just my 2cent YMMV

oh and I have notes from way way back. but they are simple and pre date any web site.
at one time I though about adding all of them here, and then I though why? many of the beers are gone now and or they have changed through the years, etc etc. the big reason was I had simple notes. like:
did I like the beer? why
    price, color.
if I disliked the beer, why?
sometimes it had where I was, etc etc.

    to each his own though.

That's what notes are for  if/when you want to use them of course

Depends on how vividly you remember the beer from one experience. i think I could do a review of funky gold mosaic two months later because the flavors and smell were big/vibrant/etc and I can remember how it tasted for the most part. It would be a half assed review but it could pass (especially with the new 5 character limit:rolling_eyes:). For the most part though, I need the beer in front of me to do a half decent review.

NO. Drink the beer now, review the beer now. You can't do it later. It's just not right that way.

My thought is that unless you have notes it is hard to review a beer from a past experience. A quick rating could work if you have a strong feeling as to what you felt about the beer, but even that is difficult without specific recollections.

Uh, no. Your "reviews" don't have any detailed information about the beer.

To each their own I say, I myself only review a beer that I am drinking at the time. I also only post a beer I'm actually drinking on WBAYDN.

I think with some beers you can review without having for awhile and others you should. I could review a corona now and haven't had one in a year r two but I now it is bad lol.

I usually have only done this when it is something that was made once, and will not have it again. That being said, I use the beer reviews mostly to help myself remember what I have had and what I thought about it. So it doesnt do me much good to review something a long time ago

I prefer to review beers that are in my hand. I may also review a beer after a few hours, but not more than 1 day ago.

If it's from notes you took when you drank the beer, cool. If it's from memory, not cool.

    Thanks for the input, guys.

I agree with most of you. Every beer that I've reviewed so far (really not a lot) I did it as I was drinking it. I've been out tasting some new brews and when I find something very interesting I think would be worth it reviewing and sharing my opinion. I take detailed notes on its aroma, taste, feel etc to review later.

I believe reviews should be as detailed as possible, and they should capture your feelings when tasting a beer, not just memories from a beer you drank in the past.

    Cheers

I either write it down on my smartphone while I'm drinking and fix it for grammar and spelling later or I just give it a number and move on. Life is too short and beer warms up too fast to get worked up over such things.

My current personal chain of events :

Bike ride home from work late at night. kick my shoes off and throw my keys on the counter. Go downstairs to my man cave and grab a brew I haven't reviewed yet. Bring it upstairs, grab a clear glass (sometimes), log on to BA, sit down, crack the beer, and proceed. I will edit the review later sometimes for grammar, structure, and readability but for the most part it's 100% right there as I am experiencing it.

I don't feel a review can be accurate unless the person reviewing it has it right in front of them for the purpose of enjoyment and review. I've only done ONE beer without having it right there, and I'm considering taking it down or revising it sometime down the road when I DO have it in front of me. Just doesnt feel fair.

I decide before I pour a beer if it's one I am going to write a review for. 95% of the time, I write it immediately after or during the drinking of that beer while it's fresh in my mind..or buzzed mind depending on the beer...
