Party on Camano island. About 20 beer drinkers. Ideas on what the hell I should get? I was going to get a couple cases of easy jack, as it's a tasty session, but it's gone. But I need like 10 cases total. Thought of getting a 6th barrel, but that limited to one beer plus some cases.
Ideas of where to get the amount, so... Cheap near pdx, and what to get? Ideas welcome... Please.
I was thinking john's? Is that the cheapest place to get cases?

Camano? Get some Fremont Summer Ale and Bale Breaker Field 41 on your way North.

Not a huge fan of tax... But, ok... Where should I pick it up?

40 is a great bday. You can find fremont beers at most stores but hit up the brewery for bigger selection.

Fremont sells cases of their beer, you could probay contact them directly. Not sure who could get you that much Bale Breaker. Maybe Bottleworks or Beer Junction?

Thanks guys I'll call the brewery, I do have some issue with buying cases of a beer for a party, and personally vouching for a beer I've never had though... They distribute in Vancouver wa?

    Any pdx help?

i can't think of many breweries that do cases in PDX. Session lager is the only thing that comes to mind. Might be worth picking up a couple of those. Workhorse is pretty cheap and might be a good idea. you might be able to pick up larger formats at the brewery. Im surprised deschuttes doesn't sell cases.

I never buy cases so I don't know much and this post was largely unhelpful.

    You're welcome.

You could always go to Bevmo or Total wine and more in Vancouver to get cases. They have Fremont and a large portion of what PDX gets as far as Oregon beers and they won't charge tax if you show them your Oregon ID.

Wait... Is that a real thing? No tax with oregon id? Not that it helps with my Texas one, but seriously?
Laurelwood... Good idea. Forgot about them...

Dock sales from a distributor are a good bet for bulk amounts of beer for cheap

Yes, you pay no tax at BevMo or Total Wine if you show your Oregon ID. Better yet, and strangely not many people in Portland seem to know this, but you can go to some Oregon beer distributors and buy beer by the case at wholesale. I know Maletis still sells to the public. Mt. Hood used to, but not sure if they sell to the public now that they are under Columbia's umbrella. Columbia never sold to the public to my knowledge. And I have never tried but do not think any of the distributors that specialize in micros (place like Point Blank for example) sell to the public.

Thanks Rob, That's so bizarre. I'll have to get lauren get her oregon id soon.
I thought about distributors... Beer laws are so weird here, I thought maybe I could pull a pennsyvania. I'll have to check next week. Any distributors that sell to average folk that have a good Portfolio?

Looks like Maletis would be a good bet in Portland judging by the portfolio they have listed. Fort George, Firestone Walker, Four Loko, and that's just the F's!

They do at Costco, don't know about anywhere else, but Black Butte and Mirror Pond should be available at just about any OR/WA Costco you visit.

Just be aware that not every place is set up to do that (the sales tax exemption), as the store in question is supposed to take your Oregon ID information for a tax exempt sale. In my experience, most places near the Oregon border are set up to handle tax exempt sales, but in my experience, it's fairly uncommon as you get near the Seatac area (I had no idea that Total Wine and Bevmo were set up for it). So that being said, it might be worth your while to call someplace like 99 bottles, to see if they're set up for tax exempt sales (if you're making a large purchase, it might be worth their while to allow it, even if they don't normally allow it). I agree that Bale Breaker field 41 would be an excellent choice for you.

If you're making a large enough purchase, it's been my experience that some places that don't normally allow tax exempt sales for Oregon residents, will make an exception. For example, a X-mas present I got for my GF at a jewler in Tacoma was willing to leave off the sales tax for me, even though they don't typically allow it. If you're planning to purchase 10 case of craft beer for this party, I could see a number of liquor stores in the Seatac area (or wherever you plan to purchase your beer) allowing you to make a tax exempt purchase (though I would definitely call ahead first to make sure of that, and to get pre approval).

    Good luck!

Personally, after living in the Mid Atlantic area for roughly 10 years, I find the alcohol laws in the NW to be quite sane and sensible (especially in comparison to a state like Pennsylvania, just as an example).

Woah I've never even thought about buying beer directly from Maletis. What is that experience like?

Flip through a book, buy only cases if things under 9%. Over is illegal to sell me? Pay same price as stores. guy delivers to the car. Pretty nice. Oddly specific 4 gallon minimum purchase.
