Hey Pacific folks, I'm going to be in the Newport/Laguna/Anaheim area for a wedding in early October, so being a few weeks out I'm starting to put together a wishlist of shops/breweries to visit, and updating my wants list. I'm noticing that said list is pretty hop driven, so that will be touch and go.
Any suggestions on dark beers to be on the lookout for? I love beers with coffee involved in particular.
Looking to bring a fair bit back to the East Coast with me when I depart...

Itinerary wise, there's been a lot of good information here recently and via search so I have a few places tabbed:

    Bruery
    Noble
Stops at a few WF locations
    Hi-Time and perhaps Korker?
    Side Door and/or Crow Bar

Anyway, suggestions are welcomed and appreciated, and if anyone is looking for something from the East Coast, I've got a lot of accessibility in the PA/DE/MD area (Bells, Founders, Great Lakes, Jai Alai... list goes on) and should have some free time to do IP- shoot me a message!

    Cheers!

I would recommend Smog City Groundwork Coffee Porter.

You'll have to forgive the lack of responses, there are many of these threads created each week - I'd recommend just digging further thru those. You have a good list above.

Heh, seriously. There's not many options for what you're looking for in bottles that you probably don't already have access to in PA. Outside of the big breweries who do make these and bottle them there's not much (Ballast Victory at Sea, Alesmith Speedway, Stone RIS, are the ones I'm sure you can get in PA)... so doesn't leave many options down in the LA/SD area. Just not relatively a lot of dark beers down here.

It's all good guys, glad to at least hear that I'm on the right track as far as places to visit... I just figured that I'd throw the dark beer suggestion question out there, since most of the threads in your area seem to be about hoppy beers!

Of course I'd like to sample/bring home some of those too, like I mentioned before though it's just hard to tell what might be available in a few weeks

And, just figured this was a better way to drum up possible IP trading conversation than adding an open-ended ISO:FT in the actual thread...

If you love coffee beers, then Modern Times Black House is the way to go. Also if you can find some, Epic Big Bad Baptist ain't too shabby either. You'll find BH at all TW's and Bevmo's. Forgot to mention Peche Mortel!

Thanks @androoy BH is already on my wants list for sure! I actually have a Big Bad Baptist in the cellar too, but if I stumble across more would certainly be going that route too

Nice. I'm not on a PtE hunt (don't get me wrong, I'd take some, but prefer the Pig anyway), but any chance of finding Tongue Tickles, Grapefruit Sculpin or the like?

WF Tustin had Tongue Tickles yesterday.. probably won't still be around in October.

Depends on if/how Grapefruit Sculpin distribution changes by then. At the current rate - no chance.

I figured as much in both cases. I'll have to keep an eye on the regional threads as I approach the time I'll be in the area to see what's currently available...

I actually just picked up 4 cases of grapefruit sculpin for my wedding next week. Likely to be some leftover. I'm about 10 minutes away from Newport Beach.
