Backpocket will be releasing Old Bufflehead, a barrel-aged English style Barleywine, for their 2nd Anniversary party tomorrow, 8/27. It's sitting in barrels for the past six months. It will also be bottled in bombers, but there isn't a timetable for that release yet.

Also at their 2nd Anniversary party will be a new Citra Wheat, as well as the return of their First Anniversary Stout.

That all sounds great! I still haven't seen Hawktoberfest around DSM, but I'd like to try that too.

Here's to hoping you can actually taste a little barrel in this one. Was disappointed in their first ba attempt

to be fair, it was a blended beer. Not everyone's first barrel-aging attempt is going to be world-class. It's hard to get a barrel program up to the standards of Goose Island or Firestone Walker. It's all about blending.

Eric from Rock Bottom makes great barrel aged beer in Iowa, so has Toppling Goliath, but I'm struggling to think of others who have really rocked out in this category from our home state just yet.

Good on Backpocket. Looking forward to trying this guy. Maybe before/after Fry-fest this Friday?!

The First Anniversary was so much better on tap than it was when it finally hot bottles. Personally, I thought it was done pretty well.
