My group and I are looking to make the trip this year. Any info will help. What time do people start lining up? bottle sharing allowed outside of Holy Grale? Good bottle shops in the area? Thanks and looking forward to it.

Last year tickets went on sale at 11 I lined up at 9-10 and was shut out for a ticket for a pour of Zwanze. I did get in at 11ish and got a couple great pours. This year tickets are going on sale at 8am so you might need to line up around 6 to make sure you get a ticket. IDK about bottle sharing last year I saw a couple bottles floating around but it wasnt a lot, I will be bringing a bottle or two if I am going to wait there for 2 hours. The best bottle shop is The Louisville beer store.

I'm sadly out of town and will miss this, but if i were in town, i'd be in line at 5AM. Also, publicly drinking on Bardstown Rd, while amazing, isn't the best idea.

Really looking forward to this....finally! I haven't been able to make the past couple years due friend's weddings being on the same date every year. This year finally no wedding planned...kinda.

Going to make the trip down from Ohio, for my bachelor party with my groomsmen. Very excited!

Any idea if there will be Zwanze Day glasses/swag at this location? Also, "threedaggers" is bottle sharing allowed or frowned on? Was hoping to be able to have a few brews while waiting for the ticket sales.

Hope to meet some great BA's at the event!

I would think bottle sharing would be a no-no considering the Grale does not have a parking lot (the KFC Eleven restaurant next door owns the entire lot and I doubt they would allow being sharing open containers on their property), while the front of the Grale is city sidewalk, also not a good idea unless you want a citation for an open container.

This is just my guess based on my knowledge of the Grale and the surrounding businesses. I'll be stopping in this weekend when I am home for Labor Day and will pose the questions and report back.

Yeah that's about right. If you want to publicly drink on the sidewalk, i would at least put it in a less obvious glass.

Best bottle shops in the area will be Gralehaus (located at the back of Holy Grale) and Old Town, which is about a mile down the road. Gralhaus serves beer and amazing breakfast at 8am. If I wasn't out of town for a wedding, after getting my Zwanze ticket, i'd walk to Gralehaus and get their Biscuit & Gravy, an iced maple latte, and whatever coffee-bean-randalled coffee stout is on tap, frequently espresso peche mortel.

also, you might as well stop by Against the Grain and pick up Bo and Luke bottles when you're in town. Bo and Luke day is the prior weekend, but they usually have bottles for sale for a few weeks after releases.

Anyone know, on average, how many tickets Holy Grale usually sells for this event? I'll be in town visiting my Girlfriend and I want to gauge my chances of getting a ticket before explaining that I'll be ditching her for a few hours (most likely half the day) to drink loonz.

Don't even mention bringing her with. She already said she isn't waking up with me at 4 am. Her level of commitment is questionable...

Like I said I saw people doing it last year but most were drinking about of plastic solo cups, and people weren't keeping there bottles out in plain sight. Also they would throw their empties away or put them in a bag. Most cops in the Highlands (I live in the Highlands) are pretty cool as long as you are not falling down drunk or you give them another reason to stop you.

My wife and I are coming up to visit her folks and I just happened to suggest Zwanze weekend and did the "oh by the way" deal. So where is the best place to stay? We always have stayed with her folks, but we are going to get a room or airbnb this time since they live over in the PRP area and I would like to be closer to the action, so to speak.

Any of the downtown hotels will be a short (5-10$) cab ride.

There are not any hotels (that I can think of) that are within walking distance.

Gralehaus breakfast is amazing but I would expect many have the same idea.

Did ATG release info about Bo and Luke day? I know they were going to soon but I have not received any information yet.

Hey Alpar... we'll plan to be in line with ya. If she asks where you are going at 4am, you can tell her you're coming to bail a few friends out of the Louisville lockup. When she catches up with you later in the day, we will vouch for ya!

Nothing wrong with drinking at 8am if we're celebrating your FREEDOM, right...

So haven't been...is it an absolute mad house? Once tickets sell out, do they still allow folks to come in for non-zwanze?

If you don't snag a ticket, we'll still be selling tickets at the door for the Copper & Kings/Kentucky Guild of Brewers Lock, Stock, and Smoking barrel event. 24 beers including 12 specific beers aged in C&K brandy barrels.
