Terrapin Imperial Pumpkin Pie Porter

Raleigh-Durham got a rumored 12 cases of BA Speedway and BA Wee Heavy two Fridays ago, and they popped up sparingly throughout the Triangle. It was a huge surprise to most of us. The bottles were from last October.

 

Right now Alesmith is only in the Raleigh-Durham area. They entered into NC via one distributor and are not yet statewide, although I am hearing rumors they will hit the Triad and beyond soon.

Has anyone actually had it? Any impressions?

 

The reviews on Untappd are not great....the majority thinks its got a really good nose, but the taste/body doesn't match..

It was okay, very sweet. And yes, it needs more body to support such bold flavors. Kind of reminds me of how Liquid Bliss tasted versus the smell. That beer was a hot mess..

 

My folks at a local shop in Tampa say they were told by the distributor that Terrapin doesn't want the bottles sold before 9/2... FWIW...

 

My guy at local ABC (Orlando area) said same thing.

 

They hit TW PBG today.

 

Cracked one open last night. This is much closer in taste to a gingerbread porter IMO. It really opened up after 15 min in the snifter. I really liked it a lot as it was easy on the ginger so I got to taste all the other flavors. Going to age one until Thanksgiving like I do Good Gourd.

 

That sounds pretty awesome! Would you consider drinking this at room temp from the start?

 

For myself, I enjoy nursing a beer like that from a little cold to cool just to see the the different flavor profiles my tongue goes through. I thought it was best at around 60-65 degrees (best guess as it was still cool compared to my constant house temp at 72)

 

Boynton ABC will have them on 09/02...apparantly that is the release date...but certain store have been breaking the street date. I picked up a bottle at Boynton Total on Tuesday of this week. 11.99.

 

I had it on tap last night, and honestly I won't be hunting this one down. It's a whole lot of 'meh' with a metric ton of cardamon flavor which I don't personally enjoy. It tastes a lot like mixing a Warlock with Imperial Pumpkin Smash.

I'll take Pumpkinator over it any day of the week.

 

Sounds like another Terrapin Limited release, that is all over the place in terms of flavor and appeal. Not an unfamiliar situation...

 

Every Terrapin release I've had other than WnB has been a disappointment in terms of taste and mouthfeel. The nose is always great and then the taste is just an average version of whatever style it's based off of. Rarely do you get the target flavors they shoot for.
