No way, SABL is a terrific example of a well made and delicious lager where Rebel is a below average IPA for it's style.

I'm not a hater of Sam Adams, I love many of their beers, but let's call it like it is. Rebel is a below average IPA. BBC can make a good IPA, but Rebel is not it.

Hmm, I hit a nerve? Since when is your taste superior?

The second you said you'd rather drink an inferior beer rather than a terrific beer. No nerves hit.

Boston Lager is a Terrific beer? Okay, What makes it terrific in your P.O.V.? Is it BA scores or your own taste buds?

I remember when Redhook ESB was one of my favorite beers...almost 20 years ago! I had no idea their IPA was so popular. For some reason, I don't even notice Redhook 6-packs in stores anymore.

Other than the crappy bowling alley near my house I can't tell you the last time I saw it on tap in Portland.

Well I looked up the style guidelines, and there's actually an overlap for apa and American ipa. APAs go up to 45, and ipas go down to 40. So, Rebel barely makes the ibu cut....weak and sissified (which is actually true to SA's MO- making entry-level products mostly) But does that make Mirror Pond (at 40) and say Bale Breakers Field 41 (45), IPA's?

Longhammer is a staple for places like Bdubs. It's been on tap the last two times I've been to the Cascade station BWW.

Good point. Nationwide chains need things that are available nationwide for menu consistency.

Sounds like I hit a nerve.

Ps. If you think Rebel is a good IPA, you need to try more IPAs.

P.S. It took all that time for that feeble Retort?

    You're too cute.

Yeah, I upset him a few months ago when I made a negative comment about Storm King. But hey, we should both be striving to be more like him, with his superior tongue and all...

I didn't realize Bell's was distributing nationally now. That's awesome. I grew up in Michigan so Bell's beers are near and dear to my heart (Oberon, Amber, Two Hearted, Cherry Stout, all contenders for best in class).

If Three Floyds in Indiana every goes national, you guys are in for a real treat! Alpha King Pale Ale == yum. Dreadnaught IPA also yum.

Re: that list, I'm not a fan of the Sam Adams and I've given it a fair number of tries. I am a fan of the Sierra Nevada, which I was a bit surprised by. New Belgium is just ok. Never had the redhook. The rest on that list are all A+ in my book.

I agree with you on the fact that people are very negative towards Sam Adams, but I'm not a fan of Rebel IPA. One of the few beers they've put out that I havent liked
