Exactly this. My (German) wife had her first taste of a DIPA recently. She immediately liked the grapefruit, mango, tropical flavors. Which is not to say that she drank the whole beer, but she certainly liked the initial fruit flavor blast. What's not to get?

But not true for everybody. Like me. I never had to acquire my taste for hops, in fact, there isn't a beer I've ever tried that is too hoppy for me. A hop head to the max, I am.

If you have to ask, the answer is yes. Move onto lagers (or back to).

Why just lagers? There are plenty of ales that are quite different than IPAs (as you very well know of course).

This right here. The OP may already know this, but freshness is very important for IPAs. Early on in my craft beer enthusiasm, I tried a handful of IPAs and didn't like them. I knew nothing about checking bottle dates or freshness. Knowing what I know now, those beers could have been a year old. But then Stone began distribution in my state and I got some fresh Stone IPA and it became my favorite style soon after that.

With an old IPA, you'll still get quite a bit of bitterness, but much of the flavor will be muted.

I'm surprised to see so many people saying they had to get used to IPA's before liking them. But there are a lot of unbalanced in your face examples out there. I suggest you give Dogfish Head 60 and Goose Island IPA a try. If you don't like them I think it's a good bet you simply don't like IPA. That's not a problem. Just move on and enjoy what you enjoy.

I have a friend who like BMC style beer. When it comes to imports or craft beer he says "I know that's the kind of beer I'm supposed to like, but I don't like it." Hey, you're not supposed to like anything, you like what you like.

Some people just don't enjoy IPA's. My dad and bro cant stand them but I "acquired" a taste for them halfway through my first ever IPA. There's a load of other great beer styles to check out so don't get to hung up on drinking IPA's.

I haven't really Acquired a taste for sours yet so I don't buy them to often, I have had 2 that I've like and occasionally come back to sours to give them another shot. Bottom line is its not a big deal if you don't like a style.

If you don't like them you don't like them. Drink something else.

I dislike both of those beers and I drink mostly IPAs. Goose Island is crap and DFH 60 isn't leaps and bounds better

Neither one of these beers are crap. I love IPAs, these are not near the top rung, but they are much better than what you label them as.

If you don't like a beer you don't like it but that doesn't make it crap. Those are both quality beers and are not crap.

Worcestershire sauce was an acquired taste for me; didn't realize it was addictive.

With an average rating of 3.75 on this site, I don't think I'm way out on a limb saying goose island ipa is crap. I'd say it's more contentious to say if you don't like goose island ipa you just don't like ipa's.

3.75 out of 5 is a pretty good rating...

There's no rule written anywhere that you have to like IPAs. Just find other styles you like, and if you really want to get into IPAs, come back to it later.

Some of us, just never like them. I had a taste of just about every IPA/DIPA we get here, I can drink it but I do it now only because
A: its just a taste to try it
b: its really hot food, and SOME ipa's seem to work with some of the hot food.

I can stand SNPA, dale PA is an ipa to me. I can drink a DFH 60 on draft and its probably old as hell. lol
I try them but its not my thing, after 40 years I not been able to force myself to enjoy them yet. NOW I can drink some English IPA, but I am sure after the trip from the UK they are old also. I figure I am more into beers that Hops is not in my face. Pine tar bombs I truly hate. but the old elder was not too bad.....

the sour and the slightly vinegar (red wine like) thing was hard also but I did break through there. I wish I did not like them, too frigging expensive....:grimacing::grimacing::grimacing::grimacing::grinning::grinning:

In what universe is a 3.75 a bad rating?

In the BA universe. Check out some ratings. Good luck finding them lower than 3.5

3.75 on BA is at best a c+

Wow, that is some skewed thinking.

2.5 out of 5 is average, what most would term as an alphabetical "C" grade.

    I'd guess 3.75 is B- territory...
