I rarely had a problem with skunked Urquell as before they got the closed six packs, would always make sure I got one that hadn't hit the cooler lights, do this with all green bottles, just go in the cooler if you can or reach way back.

Maybe I haven't looked hard enough, but I haven't seen it in the closed six packs. All I've found is the standard. There's hope after all ...

PU is perhaps my favorite beer all time. Just saying.

I had no clue they swapped to brown bottles. Will have to grab some.

man, maybe there's real old stock where you are, soon closed six packs will be gone with new brown bottles coming out.

If and when I go, I'll definitely try those two brews. Thanks for the tip, man. Cheers!

:grimacing: I'm not so sure about "hope" in your area - the "closed" sixpacks started hitting the shelves in the US market in July, 2012.

If you have yet to see them, it sounds like P.U. doesn't sell well and the local distributor doesn't care. Check those "Best before" dates and remember that in the US the date is based on a "too long" supposed 9 month shelf life.

Sorry to hear that the closed sixpack box is being replaced by an "open" basket design with the move to brown glass (have only seen the new 12's in my area) but I only buy cases or 12's anyway.

If they advertised even half as much as Stella, they would be doing themselves a huge favor. Get those Stella drinkers to switch over to an actually good beer.

Didn't even like in the Czech Republic. Servecible enough, but I always enjoyed Budvar more. Would be willing to give a go in cans for science's sake...

Where in Illinois are you? I've seen the closed 6 packs for quite a while in the Northeast -- trouble is, if you're just glancing thru the cooler you may think it's a 12 pack because it has the same look. I saw the price and immediately thought, "$8 for a 12 pack of Urquell? Oh... it's that new 6 pack."

Also seen the new 12 packs as mentioned by Jess.

Was looking through the singles yesterday, saw some brown bottles of this behind the green ones. Got a brown bottle in my fridge to try.

Tinley Park. And you're right ... I could have thought they were 12 packs. Next time I'm out, I will have to take a look.

No singles yet ... that I am sure of. At my grocer, Pilsner Urquell is a regular on the mixed six pack rack.
Just gotta make sure my eyes are open wider. For a pilsner, it gets a lot of love. I am curious as to why.

A local biergarten is known for having insanely fresh Urquell on a 'special' pilsner tap. I must say that I wasn't a fan before trying it there, but now I can't get enough of it. Just an amazing beer when fresh.

What is 'special' about the tap?

Since there has been discussion about draft Pilsner Urquell I thought some folks would like this video about the different ‘methods’ of pouring Pilsner Urquell.

    Cheers!

After watching your video (thanks for that!) I can confidently say they just do the 'milk pour' there. It's a really nice, and different, way to enjoy a pilsner.

Glad I only got a single. The brown bottles were behind the green ones on the shelf at Total Wine. Did the "reach around" to grab a brown bottle. Definitely not my thing. Had that skunkiness to it. I'm guessing it would be great across the pond, before they pasteurized it.

“Had that skunkiness to it. “ The brown bottled Pilsner Urquell was skunky?

“I'm guessing it would be great across the pond, before they pasteurized it.” Do you have a personal opinion on what pasteurization does to this beer?

    Cheers!

Just like Chimay , ( the red in particular ) they went from open fermenters to conical and changed the beer forever.
