Why do we call ourselves beer geeks or beer nerds?

    just lost some beer out the nose on that 1.

    advocate , while a nice web site name is too religious for me as a person, I am NOT a beer convertor. drink what you like, that is respecting beer, all beer.

    So do I. I belong to fitness forums and take working out seriously and wouldn't live without it. Same with beer. I just can't get behind giving myself a silly monicker somehow trying to separate myself from recreational gym goers and casual beer fans.

    Beer connoisseur or aficionado can come off as rather pretentious or douchey. Geek, nerd, or - my preferred term - snob is generally perceived as self-deprecating enough to counteract me telling whoever it is I'm talking to that Yeungling is not what they should try and order at Church Key.

    Most of my friends call me a beer nut. They think it's nuts to buy 1 bottle of beer for the price of what they can buy a case or 2 of beer for.

    Nice line, if a bit long in the tooth. Do a quick forum search on how "we" (i.e. members here in general) refer to ourselves ... "we" is entirely appropriate.
