I have a bunch of pellet hops that I just ordered.

Planning on standard 5 gal batch with nice 1056 slurry.

For sure I will use Millenium for bittering.

What are your suggestions for flavor, aroma, and dry hop?

    I have:

    Centennial
    Sumitt
    Nugget

I have never used Nugget so I'm looking for suggestions on a nice hop schedule. I have multiple ounces of all so let me know what you think.

    Cheers!

All good choices in your inventory...2:1Centennial background with Summit and Nugget providing the heavy artillery in reserve.

Edit: I would blend in that ratio.

So, if I did a 10 min, 5, and 0 min addition you are suggesting:

    @10, 5, 0: 2 oz Centennial, 1 oz Summit, 1 oz Nectar

    And same dry hop schedule?

Wow...that's a lot more than I add for typical American IPA's but I have them and game on...

I think he meant a 2:1 ratio, not 2oz:1oz though that wouldn't be totally absurd.

Yes, what I meant was a 2:1 ratio... with 4 oz late and 4 oz DH being right where I like my IPAs usually.

Personally, I'd get rid of the 5 min addition...1/2 a # is plenty total...let's not overhop this

Good lord, ok. That's way more hops than I use in my typical IPA's and I've always been pleased with my results. Worth playing around with though.

Lots of people have turned to loading up with late addition hops because it gives a great aroma and nice flavor.

A number of BAs are advocates for using lots and lots of hops when brewing IPAs.

I have personally been pleased with a more ‘modest’ hopping schedule for my IPAs:

    · 1 ounce with 15 minutes left to boil

    · 1 ounce at end of boil

    · 1-2 ounces dry hop

My IPAs have more than enough flavor and aroma for my tastes. They are more hoppy (from a flavor and aroma perspective) then the IPAs I typically buy: Bells Two Hearted, Firestone Walker Union Jack, etc.

There is nothing wrong with using tons of hops while making IPAs but there is no absolute need to add qualities like 4 ounces at hop additions either.

This is your IPA. Make it the way you like it.

    Cheers!

I would agree. And I've brewed this recipe many times with great results (although I do add at least 1-2 oz of dry hops).

I was just curious as I have never used Nugget hops before and it's been a while since I've used Summit.

Sounds like I just need to play around with it.

    Thanks and cheers!
