BrewDog has just launched a new set of beers that they describe as their

latest exploration into ingredients, following on from IPA is Dead & Unleash the Yeast.
    . . .

This time we’ve used the same malts, hops, and yeast - the differences are down to the ABV.

There’s a great complexity when trying the beers side by side - the aromas & flavours from extra pale, cara and dark crystal malts vary from biscuity through caramel, toffee and treacle as you might expect, but the hops (simcoe, citra, cascade and centennial) present differently from style to style - from zesty to tropical through stone fruit to jammy.

The labels feature exclusive artwork by Esther McManus.
The brewing information is as follows

    ABV: 4% / 6% / 8% / 10%
    OG: 1041 / 1058 / 1074 / 1097
    IBU's: 35 / 70 / 85 / 100
Malts: Extra Pale, Cara, Dark Crystal
    Hops: Centennial, Cascade, Citra, Simcoe
Twist: Four beers, four styles, one DNA

I think this is a really great concept for brewing beers, and I hope to get some stateside. More information can be found here: http://www.brewdog.com/product/russian-doll#tabs2

Interested in this, but who else thinks a 6-er would've been better?

    12% and 14% That'd be cool. I usually really dig 12% beers

OK gimmick to sell beer but by jumping the IBUs up as they increased the grain they have really manipulated two variables and not one, and they did not do it in a proportionate way. That is 4.0 abv has 35 ibu, but 6.0 has 70 ibu (instead of 52.5 which would be proportionate). But really I'd rather they do all the beers at one ibu level. I'd also like to know that the hop additions were identical in timing, and that the grain additions were also proportionate as the grains were increased. But I really tend to doubt both of those are true given what they did with the ibus. Thus, to me, this seems like just a gimmick where they did not in fact just manipulate a single variable (abv) at all.

The yeast and hop series were interesting enough but there wasn't a great beer among them. And a couple of poor ones

still it's an interesting exercise if nothing else

Why raise the hops as you raise the ABV. I know you usually want to balance them, but it makes it really hard to tell the effect of the change in ABV when you're changing the hopping levels. It just sounds like a way to sell more beers to me.

Ok, so not a single variable, but they did essentially use the same malts and hops, and just vary quantity of each, to create four different beers. They do describe it as four styles, so there is naturally a jump in IBUs from Pale Ale to IPA, less of one from IPA to DIPA and honestly, I am surprised they didn't drop IBUs for the barleywine. It's still a cool concept. The artwork is awesome.

Does anyone know the ballpark time from bottling to US store shelves? I'm always hesitant to buy IPAs from overseas.
