What is up with all the questioning people's drinking habits around here lately...? Losing 1.1% isn't a big deal but the changes leading to less ABV could also change the flavor. I'm sure it's "similar" but I'd imagine the brewery brewed it like they did originally because they liked how it tasted and not because it was a little boozier. If they spent all that time perfecting the recipe then saying "eh, we changed it but it's the same thing" doesn't really hold water. Taking some of the booze out could alter the flavor. All of that notwithstanding, I haven't had the lower ABV version so I might like it better! I'm sure I'll try it soon.

I just had the 6.9% version last weekend and I really doubt I could tell the difference but YMMV.

Damn, I feel old. I had to google YMMV! You may be absolutely right which is why I said it "could' alter the flavor but questioning the change in recipe doesn't mean someone is just looking for the booziest beer possible. My personal take, however, is that I'd actually prefer the thought of a 6.9 version because 8 was a bit much for me to feel good about drinking in a large format. Still though, I just want it to taste good and if it tastes better at 8 then so be it.

Agreed. That they haven't changed the normal version to 6.9% tells me that the recipe change is distinguishable without the nitro, they just like it better at 8%, or it just didn't make financial sense to redo label approval for a bunch of states for the beer.

I didn't notice the change because I dislike nitro beers :stuck_out_tongue:.

I getcha, but you can't deny that some people on here are all about drinking the strongest beers possible and as a brewer, I HATE that among many beer geeks lower alcohol beers are perceived as having less value. So I find it kinda funny that people were already complaining about the change to Old Chub without even having tried it yet!

This is the best nitro beer in a can I've ever had. I can't believe they are changing the recipe. Lets hope it lives up to the original.

Again, not "complaining" about the lower alcohol, I'm complaining that the recipe was changed to a beer I love. To get lower alcohol you gotta have less malt. And it's pretty significant a change to reduce a beer by 1.1%. So yes, when I saw the 6.9% on the can it worried me. Anyways, it tasted pretty much the same but the mouthfeel seemed thinner...I suppose that could be from the nitro though. Whatever, no harm done...doesn't hurt to have 2 different versions of a delicious beer!

8% nitro should not be an issue. Most brew pubs serve a high abv beer or two on nitro

The issue was that they wanted the beer served by the pint and make it easier for people to have more than one. Many beer bars don't serve stronger beers in pints or they charge extra for them... or both.

I don't know where this is coming from, but I drank a can of OC Nitro tonight and it still says 8% on the can...
