Apparently this was released today, with no announcement by Prairie that they were shipping or anything. I live probably 2 minutes from a liquor store and would be willing to bet it's gone already. I'm a little pissed.

I prefer breweries to release beers that way. Keeps the hoarders from knowing when they need to hoard.

It's been established that no matter how they get released, someone will get pissed off.

And keeps the people who want to get one bottle to actually drink the beer from getting any of it.

This is what it boils down to though. Regardless of how it's released, some people will get it, some won't. Some will hoard. Always and forever.

Thankfully managed to grab one of the last 3 bottles, but not after scrambling all over creation attempting to justify it financially.

I don't think it was that big of a secret. Most of the beer circles I travel in knew it dropped today. I've also heard that more drops tomorrow, so not all hope is lost.

Note taken, @aschwab, you are all for blind releases. You don't need to fill up the next thread with that opinion. We gotcha.

You know who silent releases completely fucks. People who don't live near the brewery. I know that sounds great for people in big cities where the best breweries are but it shuts out a great number of other people. "But you're rewarding the locals who frequent you more often". No, you're just letting them get more bottles than usual so they can trade away more often. "Well, you could always trade with someone"...how many Guadalupe Scotch Ales will it take to get a bottle of a silent released beer? 10, 20 or not a chance? Just saying.

This wasn't a brewery release. Oklahoma doesn't allow those. This was released at liquor stores.

I dunno, I sorta feel like I may have to say it again.

My problem with your theory is that you are saying it is screwing over people who would not be at the brewery otherwise. If you just plan a random Saturday to drive to the brewery (I will talk like we are talking about JK, because I know we are), there will always be other bottles for sale. They tend to release a bottle every 2 weeks or so and have other great beers on tap. But, you are saying it screws you over since, it sounds like, you would only go up there if there was a special release.

I think they rather thank the people that go out there regularly and do not need more motivation to go out there.

But not all of us can up and drive 7 hours to Austin. So now my only access to that beer (using Fen Tao as an example) is to trade for something else I can't get (Abraxas or Mexican Cake or Dark Lord or whatever.) So this is a beer I'll literally never be able to try BECAUSE it was a brewery only release. I intend on getting more Fred's Blend so I can at least trade with someone who gets Whiskey Barrel Bomb! so we can at least try them both. But living in Oklahoma, until the laws change, I'll never have access to a beer that will be equivalent to Fen Tao or anything else that's sought after.

If you weren't at a store by 10:30 am today you probably didn't get any Fred's.

Accurate. I managed 11, they had 4 bottles left at that point. Some places are getting it tomorrow.
