Amazing. Do you squeeze the bag or something? I wonder why you are dividing by 4 when all of the absorption calcs I've seen (and my own experience) is gallons per pound of grain? I am happy it worked out for you but why it works is a mystery to me!

In my experience "0.19" or "0.18" is QUARTS per pound, so you have to divide by 4 to get a gallon amount. Oh and yes I do squeeze the grain bag. Actually I have a large bucket that I place 5 upside down beer mugs in to create a "false bottom" then I pull the bag out of my kettle, put it in the bucket on top of the beer mugs, and then press the bag down. I'm of the opinion that tannin extraction is due to a combination of higher ph and higher temperature than my grain is at by the end of mashing. I do not taste tannins in my final product.

My absorption rate is 0.12 Gallons per Pound, which would be 0.48 Quarts per Pound. I don't squeeze anything.

Mine's 0.045 gallons per pound so stop letting that that 0.075 gallons per pound go to waste and start squeezing! :grimacing:

We landed a buffalo trace barrel. Me and two friends are brewing up an imperial porter to put in tomorrow. I can't wait. I will probably split my share up when it comes out and do vanilla beans, berries, coffee, and something else that's undecided. 20 gallons or so each.

I'm starting my first Lambic next weekend. Gonna be a long and wonderful journey, but hopefully worth it in the end! Are you doing a fruit blend?

Doing my first AG batch. FINALLY got my set up ready. Doing a sour cherry citra pale ale. Kind of a tribute to one of my favorite brewers, Sam Calagione, who did one as his first beer. Really excited, ready to brew.

No plans for fruit yet, but then again it'll be a while before I have to make that decision.

I'd love to see your recipe. Would you post it? I plan to brew a Helles next month and I've just started to put together my recipe. Have you brewed this one before?

Here is the 5 gallon version. I have brewed this many times (currently have two different batches of this lagering with WLP830 and WLP860 to see which is better).
