I think bells makes ok ipa's personally, same with founders. I think people go crazy because they are bells & founders. Shorts and greenbush make far superior IPAs IMO. I'm in the business and to bell & founders I'm a number. They don't care about small guys like us. However shorts & Greenbush know me, my wife and some of my customers. Again, I'd rather drink a 2 hearted over most iPad out of state, but it's not my favorite nor will it ever be.

I can see how you would come down that way re: Short's and GB's relationship with retailers. That said, I don't think I've found a regular IPA made in Michigan that I like better than Two Hearted, and I've had tons of Short's/GB stuff. I guess my favorite Short's IPAs are Hop Stache and Freedom of '78, but you can only get those like a few days a year. I've never had a GB IPA that impressed me, though.

But hey, we all like different stuff - not sure why Biff got so raw on you.

It's always interesting to see real sales figures over the perceptions of the average BA user. Personally, I'm a not surprised Two-Hearted surpassed Oberon, but I'm mildly surprised that Bell's Amber still holds their third spot. (but again, that's from the skewed perspective of a BA)

Guess that had nothing to do with the thread, I would've thought best brown was # 3, not amber.

Fresh two hearted on tap is an out of this world expierance to me. One time at OEB i had it and I think I drank like 5 pints in a hour or two.

i've never said 2 hearted was a bad beer, it's just not my favorite and i don't care for it. that's what makes craft beer amazing, there's something for EVERYONE. I love brother benjamin from greenbush, i prefer that over hopslam, and it's year round. star chicken is pretty awesome as well. All day is decent, and i enjoy reds rye, but other then double trouble i don't find much to write home about from founders IPA's. stout's are a different story all in general with founders. and yes, the reps and distributors have probably swayed my opinion a little. but i find it weird that someone gets pissy with me for having an opinion, i mean it is a message board isn't it? lol. oh and if i had to pick a favorite IPA from short's, it'd have to be Superfluid or Grasshoppah. Grasshoppah will never be brewed again from the stories i have heard :slight_frown:

Honestly, from good craft brewers, a fresh IPA is a fresh IPA to me. Some have a little more hops, some have a little more malt, some have a little more citrus, but I like all of them about the same. Pretty much the only pale ales that I don't like (and by "don't like" I mean more "don't love") are those stupid session IPAs. I'm also not crazy about citra hop-only pale ales (Zombie Dust, Odd Side CPA, etc.), but I still enjoy them.

Amber is year round, best brown is fall/winter. I had Amber out of a keg at the Bell's golf outing this year and it tasted glorious(it may have been because I was 8 beers in at that point, but whatever). For some reason, Amber is the beer my parents and older relatives of mine always buy so I think it's big with the older demo(and would make sense since it was flagship in the 80's/90's).

For real, that was really weird. Looking at post history like a crazy ex-girlfriend.

Doesn't surprise me that Two Hearted passed Obbie. If I'm being honest with myself, it's not the best IPA in MI. It's my favorite though. It's like music... I can acknowledge that The Beatles are the best band of all time... that doesn't mean they have to be my favorite. Floyd over Beatles. Two Hearted over Crooked Tree and the rest.
