Yeah, we have it pretty good in Oregon. Pretty much everywhere else in the country (I didn't say absolutely everywhere Wisconsin) pays significantly more for their beer. Don't laugh too hard. The joke might be on us one day.

Deschutes does a special drop every year at Philly Beer Week. I don't think they physically came out to do any events this year, but the last two years, there was Abyss, Black Butte Anniversary, and lot sof other goodies on tap and bottles

I will laugh all I want sir, I was in the philly area for 4 years. I did manage to source a case of doggie claws every year though from my favorite distributor

although, a short drive over one of the bridges will find you some 3F fairly easily.

The old " I can make Jewish jokes because I'm Jewish routine". I see how it is, and will give you a pass under the circumstances. Curious though, how much was the case of DC in the Philly area? I believe they were $100 bucks at the anniversary sale. I have a feeling that's not the case on the other coast.

Not to mention the healthy markups that a lot of Philly bottle shops put on some of that beer

I paid $130ish, so not bad at all. But I did this at a beer distributor about 2 hours drive from philly. Absolutely worth it, got cases of hopslam whenever I wanted

Meh, I think I can see why it's funny. But if a well-respected brewery brought their beer here once a year (think: Surly or something) and the price was about $12/case extra than what the locals pay, I would probably buy some and not think twice.

Plus, Philly folks are used to getting completely destroyed on prices anyway, so what's new?

We are used to being overcharged, but still cheaper and easier than shipping/trading

If you buy beer by the case at a distributor, prices really aren't too bad. Of course having to buy the beer by the case is a bit annoying, even if it's for things like Sculpin, hopslam, etc.

Also, increasingly grocery stores have found a way to get around the Pa. prohibition from selling beer, and often times you can find some pretty good deals at places like Wegmans and Whole Foods.

That being said, bar prices in and around SEPA would make any Portlander blanch. However, that's really not so much a philly problem as it's an East Coast problem. Same with grocery prices and restaurant prices. The cost of living is undeniably higher out here.

Hit the nail on the head. I was in my senior year of college trying to figure out if I wanted to live in Philly and work for PennDOT or come back to Portland. I was walking around, walked into a downtown Philly convenience store and saw a bottle of consecration for $19. Seeing that made portland seem a whole lot more appealing.

Moved out here last year and never looked back. :sunglasses:

A case of Deschutes what for $39.25? (I'm Facebook too) If Abyss or the like, that would obviously be a steal.
BTW, thread wins the "most smilies" award

It's not as if it's all bad out here, but I'd say you clearly made the right move. I have a great job here, which makes living back here very tolerable.... but I'd be lying if I told you I don't miss my life in Portland. It's the most "liveable" city I've ever seen.
