Asheville Dilemma #1 - finding a reasonable priced hotel that's not 20 minutes away. I was there on business a few years ago and black Mountain was still $110 or so a night. Plenty of bars, food, music, whatever, they have a hotel problem, most make your nose bleed.

$110 a night is fairly average for hotel prices. At least down in Florda. There are a ton of B&Bs in the area. Look into that option.

Quick question, at wicked Weed are all beers that are available downstairs in the taproom also available upstairs in the restaurant section?

No. There's generally about 3 or 4 that are available downstairs, but not upstairs (sours mainly).

Motel 6, Red Roof Inn, Super 8, etc. All well under $110.

The opposite though I don't think I've seen. Everything that is available upstairs I don't think I've ever seen that it wasn't also available downstairs.

Yep, never seen anything upstairs that wasn't also on tap downstairs.

I've also seen it be the case before where they had a sour (say Black Angel for example) on tap downstairs, but not upstairs. However, they had cold bottles of it upstairs that you could purchase and drink on site.

Treznor, we're on our way to Asheville right now with a small dog. Any recommendations on a dog friendly place for dinner with expansive local tap list? Thanks in advance

You can order food downstairs. I'm not sure if it's the full menu and I'm not sure if you can do it at all hours of the night, but I've definitely been downstairs and gotten a sandwich before.

Most restaurants do not allow dogs inside for health code reasons. Most places in Asheville that have outside seating allow or tolerate dogs (not always the case with your fellow patrons however). If I were you, I would go here

look for the type of tap list that you like, and then see if they have an outdoor seating area.

Actually, I might be incorrect here. I know I've eaten something while sitting downstairs before, but I think it might have just been off the "Bites" or "Apps" section of the menu. I just can't remember if that was because it was all that was available down there or if it was just all we wanted at the time.

I hate to always give the same answer... but Wicked Weed. Though of course that's only their stuff. Or Asheville Brewing, which is also only their stuff. Really the only place that I go to in Asheville that isn't a brewery is Barley's, and they aren't dog-friendly to my knowledge. Maybe Mellow Mushroom? Almost certain they have some outside seating so they'd probably be dog-friendly and I'm sure they have a decent selection of local taps (though I've never been to the Asheville Mellow Mushroom so not certain).

As weird as it sounds, there actually aren't a lot of beer-focused bars in Asheville that I know of. Just too many breweries I guess

I just took a look through there, filtering only on Eateries, and the only place that I hadn't considered was Bier Garden. I've never been and can't remember the layout exactly, but I don't think they have outside seating, which means its a no-go due to NC laws for pets.

12 Bones is another awesome location for food and beer (again, so I've heard, haven't been) that doesn't have outside seating that I know of and thus is also a no-go for pets.

@zac16125 - I just called them because I was curious about it too and I didn't want to tell you the wrong thing. They said they serve all their burgers, sandwiches, and appetizers downstairs, but just not their entrees.

Why not just leave your pet out in the car with the windows cracked? It's not that hot this time of year.

FYI...about the upstairs/downstairs debate. I can confirm that downstairs has a few extra beers. Typically a few more sours and oak aged stuff. We ate upstairs and had a couple flights, then went downstairs and sampled a few more samples that weren't on the upstairs menu. There were 3 or 4 more sours down there if I recall, and one of them was fantastic.

And dogs under two get half price. Asheville is way ahead of the curve!

@rolltide, where'd you end up going? If it was someplace not mentioned above, how was it? I'm always on the lookout for dog-friendly places!

We are planning a trip now to Asheville in a couple weeks, anyone done a brew tour up there? I seen a few online, didn't know if it's a waste of time to shuttle around with them or just go on your own. Got a couple days up there, thinking WW , burial , one world, and? Also thirsty monk
