Pabst's take on The Godfather of IPA

I never had it back in the day. If this were any IPA off the shelf, I would say it's a nice version of an English IPA in the Imperial range (7.2 is low for imp. but this is a pretty involved brew). Sweet yet floral nose, medium body, big piney bitterness, lingering bitterness. When allowed to warm, some toasty, caramel-y malts come through, but these were dominated by the piney bitters when cold. To me, the lingering bitterness was the only negative, as it was not balanced by any smooth body for me. Quite impressive, if this were actually how it tasted back in the 40s/50s/60s, it had to be quite a shock to someone used to stuff like UticaClub or SteelCity or whatever. A modern-day citra/simcoe-head will not have much to say about this, I suppose, but I think they've done a good thing here. I'm glad Pabst pulled this out.

I've had several DIPA's. Heady, Pliny, Hopslam, Double Jack, Double Trouble....but I think this just may top them all. 3F Apocalypse Cow. Must be the lactose sugar. Amazing!

 

Wait, is there a Weeds homage with this? If so, that's outstanding (or, dare I say, 'legendary'). I need to look it up. Cheers.
