Yeah - know Daisy well - used to trade beers with her back in the day (probably before beer trading existed on here! :sunglasses: )

I actually took my girlfriend there in '08 on the one trip she's taken to Bruges with me and she was happy with fruit based nonsense!

Just the 2 mothers I'm concerened about as the Bear doesn't have a license for anything but beer !

Heh - your stock of 'cool' just went up.....

As for the mothers - just order something fruity and tell them it's 'Belgian wine'

Seriously - they won't touch beer, fruit or otherwise !

I wonder if they do hot drinks there - tea/coffee?

Might be the get out of gaol !!!

so I went for the 2009 DFH Palo Santo Maron

just having the last beer of the night - a brewery I know bugger all about !!!

Tyranena (WI) - Dirty Old Man. 7.9% ABV Imperial Rye Porter - aged in Rye Whisky barrels !

Taken at room temp - it's really rather decent, none of this fridge temp nonsense and nice for a barrel aged to be sub 8% !!!

No - I got a bunch of these from Sainsburys a month or two back. Every now and then they sell them at £1 a bottle, which I think is a steal for a tasty brew.

Not sure here - I didn't notice anyone drinking anything like that, and I went there 3 times. Also didn't see any equipment (coffee machine etc). But they do tasty snacks! Lure them in with food....

I love the cheese plate in there but I don't think 2 women in their mid/late 60's will sit an nibble cheese while everyone else drinks beer!!!

hmmm ... need to work on this

I did say to my gf that we'd all go back to the hotel after dinner, at 10.30pm-ish then I'd pop back out on my own for 2 or 3 hours of beerdoooooom

    she wasn't buying that :slight_frown:

    Tricky, tricky.....

You could try contacting Daisy or one of the staff - there's an email address on their website.

When in Brugges... When in Brugges ...

tbh - they can sit and watch :grinning: we paid for their train tickets !!!

The restaurant we're going to (De Stove - most excellent and 5 doors down on Amandsstraat) is therefore 15 seconds walk or so

I reckon I can broker half an hour in the Bear, get a couple down me whilst the Dads and the gf fiddle with fruit beer !

Perhaps I could pretend to go for a shit after my starter and pop back to the bear for a swifty

    and repeat after main

    desert

    coffee?????

I have one of those "cellared" at home :sunglasses:
Also a 2009 Midas Touch which I don't think will have lasted that well, but it wasn't a great beer to start off with so i'm just going to keep it as long as I can just for the hell of it :stuck_out_tongue:
About Earthmonk... I have 1-2 bottles of that as well if anybody wants one, I actually thought it was sp disgustingly sour I had to pour it away after my first few sips

Never had the Midas Touch or the Shatai (is that how it's spelt?) ditto all the DFH - 'ancient recipes'. They just don't appeal!

Chuck the earth Monk into our trade - don't mind a bit of sour ta very much !

Re: the 2009 PSM - It was good, but to me no different to a normal non aged version ! I had a bottle in the states last year straight from an off licence and can't say I noticed any difference last night.

That said that's the only 2 times I've had PSM, so perhaps my palate isn't discerning enough in respect to this beer.

I'd suggest ageing it a year or 2 more?

Sah'tee/Sah'tea I think, which I would like to try eventually as i'm a big fan of everything Finnish :stuck_out_tongue: The Midas Touch just appealed to the Archaeological side of me hehe.

Sounds like a plan, i'll have it when I graduate!

That GK was very unsurprising but actually quite a pleasant accompaniment to pizza now trying to figure out why I didnt pick up this castle rock harvest pale before as it is more than half decent

I had the GK LG on cask in the smoke just before Xmas (works quiz night in GK pub so little option!)

Whilst it smacked of GK it was one of their better beers
