Nah I'm sure you're right... but I am entirely fucking with you. Just picked 3 solid and very, very, very not rare/funky beers from FW. I'm sure they'll bring the heat on Thursday.

Anyone know of a tap list for this event? Been searching and have only found the breweries attending, not the beers...

Based on what I've read, it's typically released right before the gates open.

They've handed it out while waiting in line about 15 minutes before the doors open

Crooked Stave is notoriously top secret with everything they do. Don't expect any info or teasers until you're standing in line to get in the building. Builds anticipation, no?

I recall there was a tap list online last year before the inaugural event.

I went last year and it was a good festival, but being right after Rare Beer was a bad idea. I was freaking hammered and I can drink like a fish. I'm glad they are having it the day before Rare Beer this year.

As someone who has been to GABF many times, I must say these private events are way more fun. This year I'm doing WTF, Rare Beer then heading to Casey's on Saturday. No GABF time whatsoever. This is the way to do it right.

or, it's a good practice not to release information until the beer is actually in the building. given the response that we've seen to some of the Crooked Stave stuff recently, if they said a beer was going to be there and it wasn't, they'd probably be skewered on the forums and accused of not giving people what they were promised...

Get out of here with all that logical thinking, this is an internet forum!

Yeah, well that's just like, you know uhhh, your opinion, man.
But I agree, as much fun as GABF is, the stuff around it might be a tiiiiiny bit more fun, haha...

Are there any social customs I should be aware of before attending? Is somebody going to call me out on the internet if I go back for seconds of a beer? Also, do you think they would mind if I took home say 5 cases of beer?

I certainly won't call you out. But the best thing to do is be the 3rd person in line, and somehow go to all the booths at once, get a sample of each, and then sneak out the back... juuuuuuust kidding!

Like I said, it might not have been the most lovable move to your fellow beer-buyers, but you did nothing wrong or against the rules. Like laying down a bunt to break up a no-hitter in the ninth, haha...

I'll be the 6'2" oaf in the blue and gold Nuggets hat, feel free to beat me up haha.

    Observations:

That was the greatest thing ever and I'll never be able to go to a festival again cause that was nuts.

I've never "finished" before the event was actually over but I did last night. Probably smart.

Only at something like this would New Belgium and their lovely NBB Loves Leopold or Avery and their 5 Monks have ZERO people in line.

    I got very drunk.

There was roughly 4 billion dollars worth of beer in that room last night. I wanted to steal it all.

Sorry to Ale Apothecary, Elevation and many more for the stupid fucking questions that made no sense as the night wore on.

Beer is awesome. Awesome beers are awesome.

97% sure I stood in line for 85 minutes right next to @Domingo and didn't say hello and introduce myself (I was the dude in the 3/4 sleeves and the Nuggets hat)... you said something right as we were entering that made me think "oh I think that might be Chris" and then I proceeded to get to excited/distracted. My bad.

Ha, that's awesome. I continually tell people this is THE festival to go to, even over GABF and no one believes me. It took me almost a week to get rid of 2 tickets I had (I couldn't go). It's like the best kept secret and it's even posted all over BA.

I'll be there again for sure next spring.

Hmmm. We were right around the first corner...showed up about 5PM'ish. I think I was wearing a hoodie and K-dizzle was rocking a Copper Kettle shirt. The dude behind us was smoking ditch weed and eating edibles like it was his last night on earth. Hopefully he remembers some of those beers inside.

Anywhoo - the event was great. I stood in a few lines, but found tons of gems that had no line at all. The AC Golden Peach was my favorite thing there. It was in the style of New Glarus with the fruit juice still having some sweetness. I went back for more several times. There was a dry hopped Berliner from Green Bench that was a killer change of pace with all of the tart sours. Societe was buried next to huge lines, but you could walk right up and get their Highbinder immediately. It was killer.
Wicked Weed didn't have much of a line either. That said...Rare Barrel had a huge line and was worth every second waiting. They're the real deal. Great Divide's Strawberry Rhubarb was dessert in a glass. I had so many great beers, those are just the first ones that came to mind. Probably 90% of what I had was amazing. Ran into lots of good people, too. Had a fun time chatting with people while waiting for fresh fries.

We missed the first two, but never again.

A big thank you to a vast majority of the breweries who actually brought enough beer to last until everyone got in.

    Shots fired.

Although it was kind of bizarre the varying amounts of beer that different breweries brought. The line at Jester King was to the middle of the room almost all night long, while others had their signs flipped over within an hour+.

With all that being said it was an amazing time. And I found it so bizarre that both SARA and Societe had no lines at all all night long. I also found it mind boggling that bottles of Resurgam were still being poured at last call.
