This years La Folie had a much unwelcome rotten apple taste. It was intensely sour, but lacked the pleasant fruit esters to balance it. Everyone who tried it dumped it out. A bad bottle, or were there other similar experiences?

I agree...it is wicked sour and tastes awesome. I thought there was also plenty of fruit to balance it out, too...I'm thinking apples and cherries?

The beer was Hella good. Apples or no apples, I don't give an anus. It was good. I love cherries too. Woot.

Yeah, I've had it on tap a few time, me thinks you got a bad bottle somehow.

Or you might want to slap your parents for the palate they gave you.

Brought a pile of bottles back from Vegas in January and they've all been awesome - off the scale sour and delicious. Wish I could have found more.

No trace of apple at all that I've noticed so maybe a bad bottle?

Sounds like OP has a case of the minority palate. Poor guy! I have a similar problem with FBS, KBS, CBS.

Don't feel bad, dude, I had this on draft at the Flying Saucer and didn't like it, either. I love New Belgium and I could appreciate that it had alot going on, but I am not fond of very sour or tart flavor. It might just be the odd, complex style (Flanders Red Ale) that we're not really digging. If something comes highly revered, I try to open my mind a little more, and you definitely have to take into account the style a brewery is going for, but in the end, you like what you like. Doesn't mean anything is wrong with your palate.

I shouldn't have checked this thread.

Love this beer, can't afford this beer right now. Now after reading these reviews I must try this beer.

this years was good as always but not worth what they are charging this year. Price went up $5 from last year its almost the same price as the old c&c bottles were

Agree the price this year is ridiculous. I love La Folie and its my wifes favorite beer. But the $17.99-$18.99 is crazy.. My Buddy in Cali said it's $12.99 at Total Wine, Go figure. I live 30 miles from the brewery and he is 1,100 miles away..

That's funny. I thought the bottle I had this year was as good as it's been since the corked and caged.

I've had last years La Folie, as well as Rodenbach Grand Cru several times. I've also had Rodenbach Vintage (this one has a delightful green apple taste). I've enjoyed them all. None of these tasted like rotten apples, and I really don't think my palette will "adjust" to rotten apple taste- if all the posters are commenting on this years batch of La Folie, then I will assume I had a bad bottle. I will not invest the $13.99 to test that theory, though.

I just opened my first bottle from 2011 last week and loved it. Picked up three 2012 with plans to open one tonight, you guys are getting me excited. I might have to grab more today!

$18-$19 is stiff. It's moving almost the entire country to get to NC and I've been paying $14. I wish they bottle Felix/Love.
