You've noticed my devious stares at that bottle, huh? I didn't think it was that obvious.

Happy NBS! I've been away for a little bit, but now i'm but I'm back for...
    NEW JESTER KING SUNDAY!

So as my previous posts have alluded to, I came across a relatively large stash of Jester King brews in Alabama. So here goes the next one.
Aroma- Pours a golden straw color with a huge fluffy white head. Head retention is excellent, with amazing lacing.

Smell is of white pepper and faint lemongrass. Some earthiness.

Taste is peppery and earthy straight off. A bitterness takes over that is unlike a hop bitter. As the beer warms it turns into a bitter orange peel and lemon peel flavor. A slight lemon sourness as well. HUGE earthiness on the finish. As wine people would say: "The terroir is definitely noticeable."

Mouthfeel is not as crisp as I would expect. Almost a little creamy.

Overall a good beer. But very earthy. I'm looking forward to my next Jester King review.

Good evening NBS! Hope everyone had another good week. I have finally finished up my kegging project this week, and I just need one more keg to complete it. I brewed an IPA today with Mosaic and Hull Melon to replace the keg of Citra/amarillo IPA that is nearly dry. Same grain bill as the last one, different hops. The 4th keg is going to be a Scottish 80 and I will make that in the next couple weeks. Just need a 14 inch drip tray and it'll be 100% done. I have a sink washbin on the floor right now :stuck_out_tongue:

    New Beers:

This one gets me my dark wheat style. This is a great beer. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, wheat, dark bread, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and light banana. Minimal bitterness, but a fair amount of earthy spice on the finish. Great balance of malt and spice flavors. Very smooth and moderately creamy mouthfeel. Small warming alcohol after the finish as expected @ 9.5%. Really enjoyed it. 4.1
    [IMG]

A nice pleasant German pilsener. Taste of lemon zest, orange peel, cracker, bread, light honey, herbal, grass, light pepper. Fair amount of earthy bitterness on the finish. Flavor robustness is solid, but it isn't watery. Very clean in lager flavor; smooth, crisp, and slightly sticky mouthfeel. Enjoyable and refreshing. 3.68
    [IMG]

Another delicious Brett IPA from Evil Twin. Taste of lemon zest, orange peel, lime, pineapple, tangerine, pepper, hay, straw, grass, light pine, and light musty funk with some modest cracker/bready malt balance. Good amount of pine/citrus peel bitterness and earthy yeast spice on the finish. Slight touch of tartness. Well carbonated and crisp finish that is a fair bit sticky. Very smooth and drinkable. 4.0

Cheers, have a good rest of the night NBS.

    New Oktoberfest

It was a busy day in West MI. Blue skies with fluffy, white clouds and crisp temps made for a real fall feel. The leaves are just starting to turn ta' boot.

I finally got a chance to relax with today's new brew. Decent, not great. Could have been a little cleaner in my estimation.

Indeed, I am feeling sorry for the Bros lately, I mean could this happen at a worse time? During GABF? Hopefully they can put all their mind to it and get whatever problem it is solved. Todd is speaking about it on another forum, though I haven't been following.

    Guten Abend NBS
This week I popped over to my newly local version of Oggi's and tried one of their rotating offerings:
    American IPA
How could I go wrong with such a patriotic name? So I did my part.

    look: 4 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.75

    Brewer's notes:
2-row malt & imported light crystal malt create the nice color and clean finish. HBC 342 and YCR 14 hops followed by a week of dry hopping with more HBC 342.

On tap at Oggi's next to CSUF.
Pour is slightly hazy amber hued with light foam that dissipates quickly.
Smell is slightly citrusy with a bready malty background.
Taste is a nice balance between citrus meets honey and earth with a clean hoppy finish.
Mouthfeel is more lie a slightly oily DIPA.

    Overall quite good.

New follow the leader stout sunday now with basketball!!

Well, I've seen it grace these annals a boatload of times these past two weeks, so I figured I should join the party and bust out my Xocoveza Mocha Stout. At this point everyone knows who did it and all, so I won't go into that.
The weather was immaculate today, again: that perfect autumn crisp where there's not a cloud in the sky, but it's only in the 55-65 range, so you can actually go out and enjoy it... I love this season. I have an interview for my dream job coming up in a few days, and they wanted me to type out the answers to a few questions, so I spent the day working on that, though I refused to be cooped up inside and went and sat and typed in the garden for a while.
With the onset of the school year, Sunday community basketball is back, which is fantastic, but people pooped out after only a handful of games an hour and a half in tonight, so that was a bit disappointing. Though it DID let me leave on a high note: it doesn't happen very often, but my last shot tonight was a game winning three in OT that was pretty darn satisfying.

Sounds like everyone has had a pretty great day, and has been drinking well. Until next time folks!!

Randomly enough it's been stuck in my head the past week or two...

    Side note:
CAN anyone explain to me what the hell happened to my Topcutter? it looked like a normal can when I put it in my fridge, and all of a sudden I go to pull it out and it looks like it's hatched a mini blackhole inside the can. Could this be due to age (note what looks to me like bits of rust around the edge of the can -- I bought these maaaaybe a week ago)? Does anyone know how to determine the age of Bale Breaker cans? I did some preliminary research when I went to review a previous one from the sixer, but couldn't find anything useful. None of the other cans did this, and this one didn't undergo any particularly abnormal treatment. Seriously it's weirding me out!
Yes, that is completely unopened. The only thing I've done to this can is pick it up and wonder at it, it is unpunctured, unopened, and un-understood (misunderstood, I know, but it messed with my trio of un-s). I tried gently squeezing it to see if there were any leaks or anything, but its still completely sealed. If anyone has any insight or suggestions (either on what is going on with the can, OR with how to date Bale Breaker stuff) I'd greatly appreciate it. A response here or even a message, otherwise the mystery will bug me. D'oh well.
    Bonus music break:

(because I couldn't decide which ACTUAL song from the album to go with, and I love that movie...)

    @kemoarps -
that looks like it was a low-fill can, and the interior contents constricted with the dropping of the temperature. At least it's sealed well . Contact the brewery to let them know, and hopefully they will take care of you.
