I've been lucky enough to land a couple huge wants recently (some en route), including Lente, OGV '08, Uli, Selection Lambic '99, and a beer older than I am - a 1989 De Neve gueuze. I guess my remaining whales would be even crazier stuff like 50th, 1999 OG, Millenium, Blauw, Loerik, DQ, and such, but I don't think I'll ever have the ammo to land those, nor am I sure I'd want to shell out since I doubt they're twice as good as the beers I've been lucky enough to try/have en route.

To answer the OP though, OGV '08 was the beer I chased for the longest time without landing, and never thought I'd try actually.

I'm guessing you didn't read about the distribution problems at Hunahpu Day?

Oh, I did. However, I'm not an idiot, so I understand that 15,000-20,000 is greater than 3,500.

There are a few actual whales that I have been wishing I could try since I first joined this site (staring at you, M) but the "whaliest" beer that I would seek within reason is Fou Foune. Sounds so good, and after having tried and loved a bottle of the classic gueuze a few years ago, I can only imagine how awesome it is.

Blanche de Brooklyn by Brooklyn Brewery. It was one of my first craft beers years ago, and I had it at the brewery on the tour. I remember distinctly thinking "wow." It's been so long, I'm sure my pallate has changed, and heck I may have had other witbiers since then that I would rank higher, but I would love to have it again just because I remember how good it was and I credit it with turning me on to craft beer. Sadly, I think it isn't made anymore, or if so, only at the brewery sporadically.

Regular Mexican cake. I heard it isn't particularly expensive and I see trade after trade where people request the BA mexican cake and mexican cake variants, but no matter what I offer fir regular mexican cake It just doesn't seem to be happening.

I don't really have one that is a "true" whale, but I've always wanted to try Schlenkerla Fastenbier. It's at least a pretty limited seasonal. The Andechser Winter Bock, too.

I would probably say my white whale(s) are Westly or West Ashley. Honestly, anything from SARA would be incredible! I've only heard amazing things about Bernice and their other rustic goodies :grinning:

Not going to lie, but I really wanted to find that BA Bigfoot Ale. One of my good buddies and I cut our "good" craft beer teeth on Bigfoot when we were only 20-years-old (tisk tisk), and ever since then we've held the beer in high regards as the one that started it all. The BA Bigfoot is something I want to share with him this Thanksgiving for nostalgia purposes.

As an aside, I was able to get a BA Bigfoot via trade, but would welcome offers for more.

Any of the English Brown Ales, just because they are harder to get to try and drink. Besides, I'm looking for a good tasting session beer.

I'm really new to craft beer, so I haven't been in the hunt that long (and, in all honesty, have been extremely fortunate to find a lot of what I've been looking for), but so far there is one that has eluded me: Prairie Bomb.

Happily crossed Fuzzy off my list. Amazing stuff.
My whales right now are Damon, Duck Duck Gooze (the price is outrageous), and Melange 9.
