Anybody else win the bad bottle lottery? I know these things happen, but what a kick in the grundel for such an anticipated release :slight_frown:

I thought the artwork and the labels were the reason people wanted those beers. Did anyone actually get excited about Ommegang releasing an abbey ale?!

All of the beers in this series have been below Ommegang's usual standards. The fact that they're being released at such strange times now makes me think that maybe Ommegang just wants to get them over with.

I thought Fire and Blood was an exceptional beer...

Are you sure you were picking up oxidation? Didn't that beer just hit the shelves? I'd imagine that you must have picked up on lots of oxidation for you to qualify it as a "bad bottle" and start a thread.

Got hit in the face with wet-cardboard smell after the uncorking "sigh". I gave it a few minutes to warm and breathe a bit just in case my nose was playing tricks, but the odor only got worse

Take it back to where you bought it and get another or your money back.

One would think that if it were oxidized, it would also be flat, unless you're suggesting that Ommegang bottled a beer that was oxidized before it ever got packaged. Was your bottle flat?

The bottle I had tasted like a pretty run-of-the-mill Belgian dubbel. No cardboard that I remember.

I'm not suggesting any sort of cause; I'm no brewer or Monday-morning quarterback. Just offering up my observation and hoping that it's an anomaly for the sake of other consumers

I tried it on Saturday, it was OK, very effervescent, nice flavor, you may have got a bad bottle, which is unfortunate, but does happen

I love GoT, but couldn't generally care less about the beers...however, I got VERY excited when I learned Ommegang was releasing an abbey-style dubbed for this collaboration. Few in America do the style better

So, how does Valar Morghulis compare to Ommegang Abbey Ale?

Did you ever taste Ommegang's standard Abbey? It's beyond great
