Anyone going to be checking out Khoury's Fine Wine 10 year anniversary party Saturday night? If you've seen any of my "Las Vegas" replies its one of the better spots in town. They are going to be running a bunch of specials and are releasing barrel versions of an imperial oatmeal stout that Joseph James made special for the event.

Saw this, but unfortunately out of town on a trip. Was it good?

The event was a blast. The anniversary beers all turned out solid and for the wine drinkers they absolutely killed it with some of the specialty pours they were doing. Somehow I ended up with a Skyy Vodka patio umbrella stuffed in my car?

The bourbon barrel aged version of the anniversary beer was outstanding.

You got the umbrella, so you could give it to me on Saturday. And I am sure I can take the whole thing...

A friend sent me 2 bottles of the Brandy version. One had wax on the bottom of the bottle, one didn't (both had wax tops).
I didn't see any bottle number at all. So was the waxed bottom just a random deal? Or does it signify something?

I'll pop one tomorrow and post my thoughts.

HAHAHAHA the fact that someone bought that bottle and shipped makes me very very happy. It doesnt signify anything other then the fact that we were having fun when bottling/waxing. Cheers to that. Can you post a picture?

I didn't get a chance to try it and I have a cold right now, so the taste buds are dead. As soon as I'm back up and running I'll open one up.
I'll post a pic of the 2 bottles side-by-side soon.

I'm perfectly OK with there being no difference and was guessing there wasn't any. But one never knows until one asks

Love the bottom wax. It's just unnecessarily ridiculous, although it opens the door for a 100% completely waxed covered bottle.

Don't give breweries ideas. "Why is your beer twice as expensive this year?" "Because the WHOLE THING is dipped in wax! Not just the top! That's how awesome it is!"

I find the brandy to be a bit more prominent than the bourbon aged beers I've had from JJ, those being the BA RIS and No. 7. The brandy really comes out in the scent and hits solid up front. The body is fairly full, I could go for a little more viscosity, but that's nitpicking.

I didn't find the rum pumpkin to be as boozy as I have read. But then, I've recently had Rumpkin and Pump[KY]n, which are 2 of the booziest beers ever. I didn't get much in the way of spicing, it was pretty much all gourd, but the rum filled it out nicely.

2 very strong beers. Good job
