Monsambacher (?)

Many volatiles, good and bad, will be scrubbed by CO2 during fermentation. I generally think of this in terms of DMS, though, and is it worth putting that back into your beer in order to capture some aromatic volatiles?

In any event, I am sure that what Ron has posted is correct, in that there is a difference.

 

I tried the Lübzer Grapefruit on our bike ride from Jena to Rostock this past July. Fairly refreshing if you thought of it as grapefruit soda (and at 2% abv that's not far off). Did go down well after a hot ride.

 

I am hoping to find a bottle of this while I am here.... always wanted to try it.

 

Are you staying in Berlin, or are you likely to be going down towards Bamberg?

 

It might be a bit tricky but Hopfen & Malz may have it.

 

Well they DO on occasion have it, but the guy sells out of it fast when he gets it, so he didn't have any when I visited

BUT I got plenty of other goodies!!!

Nice! Some really tasty beers there.

 

Nice, indeed! Some I recognize, many I don't. I hope the Waldhaus (x2), Schumacher, Spezial, and Mühlen are fresh, which I imagine they are. I am not in love with Rothaus' Eis Zäpfle (could you not find the Tannenzäpfle, or have you tried that one already?). The Asam Bock is very good, also. And is that Zum Löwenbrau? That's one I'd have liked to try while in Germany but never did pull the trigger on owning it.

 

Rothaus Pils is everywhere in Berlin and already have had it, but this place had the Marzen which I grabbed. My photo there got jammed a bit between it I noticed merging the Marzen. The Muhlen is fairly fresh and quite dam good just drank one, it was also in the fridge when I bought it, and went into the fridge 20 minutes later at the dacha.

I am reading some of your reviews here and enjoying them. It's taking me back to the good ol' days of drinking in Germany.

 

I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on the Rittmayer Rauchbier...esp as it compares to the Spezial. You can also do a great little Kellerbier session with the Weiherer, Huppi, and Lowenbrau.

 

Friggin love a good Keller...

 

Saw you got the Hummel Pils. If you can find the Keller, it is a great example.

 

Hopfen und Malz may have St. Georgenbräu Kellerbier. That's a good one. I doubt you'll find it at a regular Getränkemarkt in Berlin although it's possible.

Oh, plenty of people do. In Germany, Britain... even in America!
